Gwinnett loses, eliminated from playoffs

The Gwinnett Braves (69-68) were eliminated from the International League playoffs Tuesday with 5-2 loss to the Norfolk Tides in Norfolk, Va.

Jose Ortegano (3-10) was tabbed with the loss after giving up two earned runs, three hits and two walks in 5.2 innings. Joe Thurston went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the eighth inning.

Gwinnett will play Norfolk at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

ATLANTA — A player for the Gwinnett Braves has been accused of raping a woman while on a trip to Columbus, Ohio. WGCL-TV (http://bit.ly/1KpmXCh) reports Elmer Reyes has been charged with kidnapping and rape in connection with the weekend incident at a Columbus hotel. Reyes is an infielder for the Braves.
