G-Braves outlast Knights 7-6 in 13 innings

The Gwinnett Braves pulled within two games of Wild Card-leading Lehigh Valley on Tuesday with a 7-6, 13-inning win over the Charlotte Knights at Coolray Field in Lawrenceville.

It was a sloppy affair, marked by six errors before Gwinnett's Matt Young drove home the winning run on a fielder's choice when be beat out the would-be double play at first base.

After the G-Braves took a 6-0 lead early, starter Todd Redmond allowed the Knights back in the game, giving up six runs in 5 2/3 innings. But the Gwinnett bullpen was strong, combining to strike out 10 and yield just one hit in 7 1/3 innings of work. Dustin Richardson picked up the win, striking out three in 1 1/3 innings.

Wilkin Castillo's three-run homer led the G-Braves offense, while Mauro Gomez went 3 for 5.

Gwinnett returns to action at 7 p.m. Thursday, hosting the Norfolk Tides.
