Gainesville High graduate Micah Owings signed a minor league contract Monday with the Seattle Mariners organization, as first reported by

Owings, 34, who guided the Red Elephants to baseball state championships in 2001 and 2002, spent 2016 playing for the York Revolution, an Independent League club. Previously in the big leagues, Owings played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds and San Diego Padres.

He posted a career-best mark of 8-0 with Arizona in 2011. As a rookie in 2007, Owings went 8-8 with Arizona. That season, he hit two home runs in his first appearance against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field in Atlanta.

In the majors, Owings has a 32-33 record, last pitching in 2012 with the Padres.

In college, he was part of Tulane’s run in the 2005 College World Series.
