This week: Atlanta gets a shot at Phillies

The Braves have fallen behind the Phillies in the NL East, but here’s there chance to catch up. They’ll play a three-game series in Philadelphia starting today.

The hope for the Braves will be to put themselves back in the discussion of division contender as opposed to the Wild Card race, where they’re currently battling with the NL West. The Wild Card is the last thing the Braves want — they have a losing record on the road and the majors’ best record at home.

After the Phillies, the Braves have Thursday off before traveling to Washington for a three-game series against the last-place Nationals, who beat them 2-1 in a series played in Atlanta last week.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Games involving Hall County schools are Chestatee (2-1) at Monroe Area (3-0), Flowery Branch (4-0) vs. Rockdale County (2-2), Gainesville (2-1) vs. Franklin County (2-0-1), Johnson (0-3) vs. Lumpkin County (2-1), North Hall (1-2) at Walnut Grove (0-3) and Riverside Military Academy (1-3) vs. George Walton Academy (3-0).

East Hall (1-3) and West Hall (2-2) have the week off.

ATLANTA FALCONS: The Falcons begin division play Sunday with a big showdown against rival and defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.

GEORGIA BULLDOGS: The Bulldogs hope to correct their 0-2 start in SEC play on the road against Mississippi State. Last week, Georgia rallied from a two-touchdown deficit against Arkansas, only to lose in the final minute 31-24.

GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS: After a tough two-game road stand against Kansas and a depleted North Carolina in the ACC opener, the Yellow Jackets come home to take on North Carolina State on Saturday at Boddy Dodd Stadium.
