Moore wins City Golf Championship
Gainesville High grad finishes with 7-stroke lead

Stuart Moore shot a 70 in the final round of the City Championship on Sunday at Chattahoochee Golf Course to finish seven strokes ahead of runner-up Will Peeples and win the tournament.

Moore, a Gainesville High graduate and former Auburn University golfer, carded a three-day total of 209 in the Championship A division.

Peeples, the 2011 city champion, was Sunday’s low medalist with a 69. He concluded the three-day tournament with a 216.

2013 Times All-Area Boys Golfer of the Year Pep Brown finished third with a 221 after shooting a 73 on Sunday. He finished two strokes ahead of former Gainesville High teammate Parks Brown, who carded a 76 on Sunday.

Jim Foote finished fifth with a 225 and shot his lowest round of the tournament Sunday with a 73. Justin Mark Cochran, Nathan Williams and Ricky Brown each recorded a 227. North Hall’s Hunter Young carded a 229.

In the Championship B division, Gainesville High teammates Reeves Bell and Grant Lasseter squared off in a sudden-death playoff for the victory, with Bell winning on the third hole. Mark Montgomery finished third with a 239 and Jason Chester was fourth with a 241.

Roger Stapp won the first flight with a two-day gross total of 158. Jeff Sanford won the net division with a 147.

Doug Glidden won the second flight with a score of 150. The net division was won by Pepper Brown with a 146, after he defeated Scott Head on the first hole of a playoff.

The third flight winner was also determined by a sudden death playoff, with Will Hicks defeating Ed Waller. Both players were tied at 167 before Hicks won on the first playoff hole.
