The top sports stories of 2014 for area fans often had as much to do with hometown standouts who had gone on to success in other places as it did with those still on the local scene. A pair of former Gainesville High quarterbacks made a major splash in the college ranks, and professionally, it was a year of change for both the Braves and Falcons. West Hall brought home its first region football championship and two baseball players from here became second-round Major League Baseball draft picks.
