Laura Simmons, a graduate of Johnson High and current senior on the Piedmont College women’s basketball team, has been named the Great South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, announced on Dec. 23.

Simmons shot close to 70 percent from the field and averaged more than 13 points per game as Piedmont went 1-1 on the week. For the season, Simmons is averaging 10.7 points per game for Piedmont, which visits Agnes Scott College at 6 p.m. Jan. 5.
