Local sports briefs: Spring sports the feature item on HCS-TV

As the end of the school year approaches before the summer, spring sports playoffs are featured this week on Hall County Sports Television.

HCS-TV talks to soccer coaches Nathan Wallace of the North Hall girls and Wolfgang Jager of the West Hall boys, along with the Lady Trojans’ Tess Patton and the Spartans’ Juan Arbelaez. The two region 7-AAA champions discuss this year’s Class AAA state playoffs.

The North Hall golf team is also featured this week.

The top-ranked Trojans coach Robert Mills recaps his team’s Region 7-AAA title and their upcoming state meet.

On the diamond, Lakeview Academy’s Brett Armour, Ralston Cash and coach Deuce Roark join the show to talk about winning the Region 8-A title.

Coaches and players from Brenau University including coach Devon Thomas and Cassie Lassiter, Marisa Litster and Morgan Smith will be on hand to discuss the Golden Tigers’ No. 1 seed entering this weekend’s SSAC tournament.

Also featured this week is a preview of the high school Olympic-style weightlifting meet Saturday at Flowery Branch High with Falcons strength and conditioning coach C.J. Stockel.

HCS-TV airs 8 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 9 tonight and Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday on Charter channel 23.

Lady Saints keep national ranking

The North Georgia College and State University softball team remained ranked second in a National Fastpich Coaches Association Division-II poll released Wednesday.

The Saints (43-3, 17-1) kept the ranking after sweeping the Peach Belt Conference Tournament two weeks ago and defeating Georgia College and State University 6-0 in a doubleheader to end the regular season.

North Georgia holds the nation’s best winning percentage at .935. They are ranked behind Alabama-Huntsville.

North Georgia next plays in its second straight NCAA Softball Tournament.

Seedings and hosting sites will be released Sunday.
