Local golf: White, Cromiller and Paris win event

The Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association played a team best ball match Tuesday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

The winners were Ann White, Sue Cromiller and Alice Paris.

Closest to the pin winner was Joann Stone (No. 3, No. 17).

LUNA: The Luna’s Tuesday golf group played at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville this week.

First place went to the team of Donny Smith, Tom Sexton, Cleve Brown and Jim Cornett.

Second place went to the team of Nelson Wright, Richard Strickland, Doug Van and Don Rogers. The team of Stan Davidson, Jr., Randy Gordy, Chad Pierce and Leggs Clark finished third.

Closest to the pin winners were Pierce (No. 3), Clark (No. 7, No. 17), Cornett (No. 11) and Strickland (No. 15).

CMGA: The Chattahoochee Mens Golf Association played a three best-ball, aggregated net points game Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

The team of Guy Long, Bob Pyne and Rolf Legbandt placed first while the team of Johnny Little, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Ingram and Harmon Smith finished in second.

Third place went to the team of Paul Payne, John Williams, Don Sorrell and Rick Reed. The team of Leroy Harper, Eddie Johnson, Dick Freeman and Larry Jewett tied with the team of Don Wells, John T. Smith, Denny Momper and Ben Brooks for fourth place.

Closest to the pin winners were Bill Sutton (No. 3), Smith (No. 5), Harry Barnett (No. 12) and Sorrell (No. 17).

DPG: The DPG played matches Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week.

Monday’s match was played at Chattahoochee Golf Course and Wednesday’s and Friday’s matches were played at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

On Monday, Martha Shell won first place with a score of +7. Dwight Miller took second with a +3 while Dave Jetter and Jerry Shell tied for third with a -1.

Wednesday’s match was won by Horace Smallwood with a +10. Dwight Miller was second with a +5. Dave Jetter and Norm Phillips tied for third with a score of +4.

Billy Corbin took first place honors Friday with a +3. Smallwood was second with a +2 and Norm Phillips and Terrence Dale tied for third with a +1.

KING ACES NO. 5: Lawson King, 13, made aced the fifth hole at Chattahoochee Golf Course on Wednesday. King, a member of Gainesville High’s golf team, hit a 5-iron 199 yards for the hole-in-one.

Witnesses were Nathan Williams, Scott Lefevre and Robert Hughes.

BLACK ACES NO. 3: Wiley Black also had a hole-in-one at Chattahoochee, using an 8-iron to ace No. 3 on Friday.

Witnesses were Danny Askew, Lorry Schrage and Brad McAllister.
