Local golf: Johnson wins event at Chattahoochee

The Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played its monthly Individual Flighted Strokes game Wednesday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

First place in the white tee flight went to Eddie Johnson. Don Wells and Glynn Rogers finished tied for second. Stu Virgin rounded out the group in fourth. Bill Ingram finished first in the gold tee first flight with Leroy Harper finishing in second. Third place went to Jere Chochran, fourth to Ed Pledger and fifth to Harry Barnett. In the gold tee second flight, Ron Hopley finished first with Johnny Litte in second.

DPG: The DPG played matches on Monday, Thursday and Friday this week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course. Charley Kilby finished in first place Monday with a score of +4. Second went to Doug Padgett with a +1. Norm Phillips came in third with a -1 and Jerry Shell was fourth with a -3.

On Thursday, the team of Billy Corbin, Phillips and Steve Knowles placed first.

On Friday, Shell won the indivdual match with a score of +4 and teamed up with Kilbey to win the team competition.

HUGHS HITS HOLE-IN-ONE: Stephen Hughs mad a hole-in-one Saturday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.
The ace was made on hole No. 5 from 170 yards with a 5-iron.

Witnesses were Mark Henson, Dick Bachman and David Hughs.
