Jefferson youth wrestling wins tourney

Jefferson USA Wrestling came out on top in the annual New Year’s Classic that was held Dec. 27 at Jefferson High School. The Dragons beat out 50 other schools for the team title. There were over 400 kids competing from four different states.

Jefferson scored 84 points while Team Walton placed second with 60 points. Rounding out the top five were West Forsyth with 42 points, West Laurens Raider Storm with 32 points and Commerce with 28 points. Other local teams competing were Madison County who finished eighth, Banks County in ninth, Jackson County in 16th and East Jackson in 20th place with nine points.

Area individual champions from Jefferson were Jacob Crumley, Ben Kelly, Cooper Young, Ethan Garner, Kyle Springer, Josh Harris, Caleb King, Ty Finch and Jace McColskey. Champions from Commerce were TJ Trudnak, Dalton Flint, Nicholas Patrick and Micah Eason.

Champions from Banks County included Mitchell Patton, Cade Riley and Logan Free.

Dawson Legg and Dawson Bates from Madison County won titles while East Jackson’s Avery Nelms also took home gold.
