Buford defeated Hart County in five sets 26-24, 19-25, 17-25, 25-7, 17-15 on Wednesday night in Hartwell to move on to the second round of the Class AAA volleyball state tournament.
Maggie Roper led the Lady Wolves with 21 kills, 20 digs and three aces. Kaitlin Tatum added 13 kills and four blocks, and Mikhayla Riegel had 26 digs. Sydney Steinlage tallied seven kills and five digs.
Buford faces the winner of Islands and Rockmart in the second round on Tuesday. Game time and location are still to be determined.
LADY VIKINGS FALL TO OCONEE COUNTY: East Hall lost to No. 1 seed Oconee County in straight sets 25-11, 25-21, 25-9 in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs on Wednesday in Watkinsville. East Hall finishes the season with a 30-15 record.
Kara Hix led the Lady Vikings with 20 digs, and Brittney Campbell had 13 assists. Emily Roberts had five kills, three blocks and three digs, and Tarryn Long recorded six kills and five digs.
CLASS AA STATE PLAYOFFS: Jefferson fell to Calhoun in five sets 21-25, 24-26, 25-22, 25-14 and 18-16 on Wednesday in Calhoun.
HERITAGE BEATS PROVIDENCE (TUESDAY): Heritage Academy defeated Providence Christian 25-11, 25-15, 23-25 and 25-22 on Tuesday.
