Volleyball area tournament scoreboard: Oct. 11

Buford defeated West Hall 25-18, 25-18 to secure a bid to the state playoffs before beating East Hall 25-21, 25-15 to take third place in the 5-AAA Area Tournament on Thursday in Buford.

Maggie Roper, who was named to the 5-AAA All-Area team, recorded 20 kills and 13 digs for Buford. Tori Payton added 38 assists, and Mikhayla Riegel had 11 digs. Bree Horrocks had nine kills and a pair of blocks.

For West Hall, Kelsi Jones recorded five kills and three blocks and was named to the 5-AAA All-Area team, and LeNiesha Kearse also tallied five kills and three blocks.

East Hall defeated North Hall 25-20, 25-22 before losing to Buford and will be the No. 4 seed out of Area 5-AAA in the state tournament. This is the Lady Vikings' first state tournament berth in school history.

Brittney Campbell led the Lady Vikings with 34 assists, eight digs and six points on serve, and Kara Hix had 31 digs, 11 service points, four kills, three aces and a pair of assists. Tarryn Long recorded 19 kills, 19 digs, 12 points on serve, and six aces. Emily Hoggard tallied 14 digs and 11 kills.

For North Hall, Sydney Cleveland led the team with 10 kills and three digs, and Kristina Gregory had 18 assists. Allie Staub recorded five digs and four blocks, and Sarah Yoder had five kills.

AREA 8-A TOURNAMENT: Lakeview Academy fell to Prince Avenue Christian (25-12, 25-22) before defeating Tallulah Falls (25-16, 26-24) at the Area 8-A tournament on Thursday in Monroe.

Katie Gay paced Lakeview with 13 digs, 12 kills and four aces, and Samantha Versteeg added 15 digs. Bailey Towles had 13 assists and three aces, while Peaches Shipley and Shelby Ross had six blocks each.

Lakeview will face either Providence Christian or Hebron Christian on Saturday in Monroe.

HERITAGE BEATS BARROW: Heritage Academy defeated Barrow County Christian 25-15, 24-26, 25-15, 25-20 on Thursday.
