This week: Region basketball tournament seedings unsettled

Area basketball teams finish up the regular season this week, the final chance to improve seeding before the region tournaments begin next week.

It's a big week for the East Hall girls (20-3, 7-1), who play Region 8-AA North's other top teams in the subregion.

The Lady Vikings face Rabun County at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Tiger, and another road trip against Union County at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Lady Panthers handed East Hall its only subregion loss this season.

The Gainesville girls (15-9, 9-2) are also in the thick of the Region 8-AAA South race with one game remaining at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the subregion's last-place team, Monroe Area.

The Flowery Branch boys (12-12, 5-4 8-AAAA North) travel to Winder-Barrow at 6 p.m. Tuesday to finish up the subregion schedule.

The Falcons are currently in a three-way tie for the subregion's top spot along with Clarke Central and Habersham Central.

HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: Local wrestlers will head to sectionals traditional tournaments beginning at 4 p.m. this Friday (or in Class A, Saturday) after getting through last weekend's area tournaments.

Local Class AA wrestlers, including all 13 from Area 8-AA champions Jefferson and four from East Hall, will head to
Dublin High.

Class AAA wrestlers, including eight from Area 8-AAA runners-up Chestatee, will travel to West Laurens High in Dexter. Local Class AAAA wrestlers, led by the eight-man contingent from Flowery Branch, will wrestle at Loganville High.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL: The Georgia Tech men's basketball team, buoyed by Saturday's win over Boston College, will look to continue the momentum at 7 p.m. Thursday against North Carolina State in Atlanta. The game can be seen on ESPNU.

The Georgia men will look to get back on track at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Athens against Arkansas.

NBA: The Atlanta Hawks return to the court at 7:30 tonight to face the Suns and try to halt a two-game skid.
