After a tight three-game match last Thursday against West Hall, Gainesville volleyball will get another crack at the Lady Spartans on Tuesday.
The Lady Red Elephants stormed out to a one-game lead and had a significant point-advantage well into the second, but, ultimately, fell to Class AAA's No. 9 Lady Spartans.
Now, the two will meet again in a tri-match, this time at Gainesville. Monroe Area will also take part in the competition.
After a slow start, Flowery Branch (10-12, 5-2 Area 8-AAAA North) has won seven of its last nine and is now tied for second in its subregion. It will play at Lambert in a tri-match that will also feature Chestatee today.
It will host Rabun County and Clarke Central in another tri-match on Tuesday and a tournament on Saturday.
Lakeview Academy, Habersham Central, Lanier and George Walton Academy will all participate.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Currently, four area teams are ranked in the top-10 in Class AA. Union County, Buford, Dawson County and Jackson County occupy the fifth, sixth, eighth and 10th spots in the rankings, respectively.
All four will spend the majority of their weeks playing games as part of the Brookwood Invitational Tournament.
The tournament will be the final games of Buford's regular season.
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Buford High will host Lovett at Tom Riden Stadium in Buford on Friday.
Lovett (3-0) will try to do what only two teams have done this year and score on the undefeated Wolves. Buford has outscored its opponents by a combined 224-14.
In another game of note, Chestatee will host Monroe Area, attempting to get its record to 4-0 for the first time in program history. The War Eagles will face a team that shut it out in 2010.
ATLANTA FALCONS: The Falcons will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers for their first division game of the season.
The game will kick off at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday and will be shown on Fox.
GEORGIA BULLDOGS FOOTBALL: The Bulldogs will try to build on their first win of the season, a 59-0 thrashing of Coastal Carolina on Saturday. They will travel to Oxford, Miss., to take on the Ole Miss Rebels.
Kickoff is set for 12:20 p.m. on Saturday.
GEORGIA TECH FOOTBALL: After setting school records for rushing (604) and total (768) yards in their 66-24 win over Kansas on Saturday, the Yellow Jackets will try to continue their good start at home against North Carolina.
The time of the kickoff is still to be determined.
ATLANTA BRAVES: As they close in on a playoff berth, the Braves will travel to Florida and Washington to play three-game series' against the Marlins and Nationals.
The Braves are yet to announce their starting pitching for the week.
