Seven Jefferson wrestlers and coach Doug Thurmond were honored at the Georgia High School Association state wrestling award banquet at the Rialto Theater in Atlanta on Sunday.
State champions Kyle Springer (103 pounds), Cason Thurmond (112), Isaac Kelly (119), Cain Finch (140), Forrest Przybysz (160), Lucas Redd (189) and Zack Allen (215) were recognized. Thurmond was recognized as Coach of the Decade. Springer and Przybysz picked up nominations for freshman and sophomore of the year, respectively.
Redd was nominated for the Witt Award, which is given to the most outstanding wrestler on and off the mat.
