The Gainesville High football team remains undefeated after a 34-7 win against Franklin County Friday night in Carnesville.
Red Elephants junior quarterback Blake Sims was 22-of-32 passing for 239 yards, and had 103 yards rushing on seven carries for Gainesville (2-0). Gainesville’s Josh Jackson recovered a fumble and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown.
Gainesville plays host to White County at 7:30 p.m. Friday at City Park.
Jefferson 19, Dawson County 0
Jefferson (2-0) quarterback Darius Minor was 16-for-27 for 120 yards and had 102 yards on 15 carries Friday night in Dawsonville. Dragons senior Zac Crosby scored on a 70 yard punt return. Jefferson’s Virgil Appleby, a senior, had 14 carries for 76 yards.
Jefferson plays host to Fannin County. Dawson County visits Banks County in Homer. Both games are at 7:30 p.m. Friday
Commerce 33, Morgan County 23
The Tigers picked up their first win of the season on Friday in Madison.
Phillip Edwards’ only pass went for an 80-yard touchdown to Javon Womack, who combined combined with Jon Cash for 129 yards rushing for the Tigers.
Commerce (1-1) visits Franklin County at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Carnesville.
Habersham Central 12, Heritage 7
The Raiders earned their first victory of the season with a win over the Patriots in the home opener for Habersham Central (1-1) on Friday in Mount Airy.
Habersham Central quarterback Austin Brown was 8-for-16 for 85 yards for the Raiders. David Griffin had 69 yards rushing.
Habersham Central plays host to Clarke Central at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Riverside 56, Banks County 28
The Eagles remain unbeaten with a road win against the Leopards on Friday in Homer. Riverside’s (2-0) Julian Suber completed three passes for 80 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for 97 yards and a score. He also had a pair of catches for 36 yards and a touchdown, and a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Riverside Military plays host to Rabun County at 7 p.m. Friday at Maginnis Field.
Sonoraville 16, Jackson Co. 14
The Panthers’ fourth quarter comeback came up just short, and the Phoenix held on for the victory Friday in Calhoun. Jackson County’s (1-1) Marquise Gillespie had and 81-yard touchdown run and Roderick Burks added a 4-yard touchdown.
Jackson County visits Prince Avenue Christian Sept. 19 in Athens.
