Prep scoreboard: West Hall tops East Hall after big inning

The West Hall High softball team remained undefeated in region play with a 3-1 win over East Hall on Thursday in Oakwood.

The Lady Vikings (1-4, 0-1 7B-AAA) had a 1-0 lead through five innings but West Hall (7-1, 2-0) put together a three-run sixth inning, led by Emily Hammond’s leadoff double. After Alex Wright was hit by a pitch, Madison Strickland drove in both baserunners with a two-RBI single. Strickland scored on an error later in the inning.

Kiley Kirkland went 2-for-3 with two singles for the Lady Spartans. Emily Hammond was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts and one earned run.

Kayla McDougald picked up the loss for East Hall with four strikeouts and four hits allowed. Kristina Davis had two hits and scored the lone run for the Lady Vikings.

West Hall plays host to Gainesville at 5:55 p.m Tuesday. East Hall visits Chestatee at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday.

Buford 9, Central Gwinnett 1

Chelsie Thomas and Whitney Holman, Samantha Ramey and Kallie Case each had two hits for the Lady Wolves on Thursday in Buford.

Karly Fullem earned her third win of the season for Buford (5-2) with four strikeouts in three innings pitched. Melissa Dickie pitched two innings with three strikeouts in relief for the Lady Wolves.

Buford plays host to Hebron Christian at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Buford Invitational.

Gainesville 14, Johnson 0

Chelsea Smith, Natalie Allen, Andy Allen, Rebecca Lawrence and Shakeela Griffin each had two hits for the Lady Elephants on Thursday in Oakwood.

Caitlyn Ludwig pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts in a complete game performance for Gainesville (5-7, 1-3 Region 7B-AAA).

Gainesville visits West Hall at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday.

White County 7, Gilmer 0

Stephanie Satterfield picked up her fifth win of the season and struck out 10 batters for the Lady Warriors on Thursday in Cleveland. 

Krista Woody was 4-for-4 with a double for White County (6-3, 1-2 Region 7A-AAA). Katie Medlock was 3-for-4. Callie McDonald, Kayley Dover, and Stephanie Satterfield each had 2 hits.

White County will visit Creekview for a make-up game at 5:55 today.

Flowery Branch 11, North Hall 1

Flowery Branch (5-4, 2-1 Region 7B-AAA) got off the field early as they were able to close out the game in just five innings.

Rachael Duden got the win for the Lady Falcons. Duden gave up no earned runs in four innings of work and also went 2-for-3 at the plate. Alyssa Jannakos went 3-for-3.

Megan Rogers picked up the loss for the Lady Trojans (5-2, 3-1 7A-AAA).

Flowery Branch visits Johnson at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Habersham Central 9, Clarke-Central 0

The Lady Raiders (5-3) defeated Clarke-Central on Thursday in Athens.

Habersham Central plays host to Madison County at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

VOLLEYBALL

Johnson splits matches at Apalachee


The Lady Knights beat Apalachee 2-1 (25-18, 21-25, 25-21) on Thursday in Bethlehem.

Katie Clark led Johnson with 15 kills. Mary Fiorentino had 6 kills. Annabeth Peace had five kills and fours aces and Shelly Farley had 26 assists.

The Lady Knights came up short in their second match falling to Monroe Area 2-0.

Katie Clark had 6 kills. Jordan Gustavel had five kills and three aces and Shelly Farley had 11 assists.
Johnson visits Clarke Central at 5 p.m. Thursday against Clarke Central and Loganville.

Gainesville picks up first two wins of season

The Lady Red Elephants (2-5) defeated Tallulah Falls 19-25, 25-23, 25-14 and East Hall 18-25, 25-16, 25-23 on Thursday in Gainesville.

In the first game against East Hall, Taylor Ricketts had eight assists, eight kills, four digs, four aces and one block for Gainesville. Somer Graham contributed six aces, two assists, one kill, and one block and Loren Thomas had five assists and three kills. Jazmine Jones also helped the winning cause with six kills and three blocks.

In Gainesville’s match versus Tallulah Falls, Ricketts had seven assists, six kills and two blocks. Kiki Thompson had six assists, three kills, five digs and three aces. Katelyn Whelchel had three assists, three kills and four aces and Jones had six kills and six blocks.

Gainesville visits Lakeview Academy. at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday against Lakeview Academy and Jefferson.
