Prep scoreboard: Gainesville wins ninth straight

Gainesville senior pitcher Zach Bennett recorded eight strikeouts and only allowed three hits in an 8-1 win against Pickens on Monday at Ivey-Watson Field. With the win, the Red Elephants (11-4, 10-1 Region 7-AAA) extended their winning streak to nine games and keep the top spot in the region.

Leading Gainesville at the plate was Robby Hefflinger with two home runs and 3 RBIs. Adam Parker had a three-run home run for the Red Elephants and Blaine Martin added a solo home run.

Charlie Newman and Sloan Strickland each had a single for Gainesville.

Gainesville plays host to Johnson at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Ivey-Watson Field.

Flowery Branch 11, Lumpkin County 3

The Falcons pieced together 10 hits and RBIs from five different batters en route to victory on Monday night in Dahlonega. Patrick Henry improved to 6-0 for Flowery Branch (13-2, 9-2 Region 7-AAA) on the season with four strikeouts and only six hits allowed on the mound.

Danny Price led the Falcons at the plate going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Greg Palmer had two hits with a double and three RBIs for Flowery Branch.

Henry, Cameron Wilson and Cody Ackerman also drove in runs for the Falcons.

Flowery Branch visits Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at War Eagle Field.

White County 6, West Hall 5

Travis Rutkiewicz had a seventh inning single for the Warriors to score Tyler Thomason and secure the victory on Monday night in Cleveland. Rutkiewicz finished the game 2-for-4 for White County (8-7, 6-5 Region 7-AAA).

Jesse Brown picked up the Warriors’ offense early with a three-run home run in the third inning to take a 4-3 lead.

On the mound, David Sosebee earned the victory for White County in relief with seven strikeouts over five innings worked.

White County plays host to Gilmer at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Cleveland.

Dawson County 6, Banks County 4

Austin Lark earned the win for the Tigers with nine strikeouts and only allowed three earned runs on Monday night in Dawsonville.

Chris Porter finished 3-for-4 with a triple and a pair of singles for the Leopards (10-6, 7-3 Region 8-AA). Bill Redmon and Zack Dale each had two singles for Banks County.

Banks County plays host to Fannin County at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Homer. Dawson County plays host to Union County at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
