Prep scoreboard: Gainesville stuns East Hall in eighth inning

GAINESVILLE — Sloan Strickland walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Justin Fordham as the Gainesville High baseball team defeated East Hall 9-8 in eight innings on Wednesday night at Ivey-Watson Field.

Trailing 7-2 in the sixth inning, Gainesville junior Andy Edmondson didn’t allow a hit in two innings of relief and also had four strikeouts.

Down 8-4 in the seventh inning, Red Elephants (7-4, 6-1 Region 7-AAA) senior Charlie Newman connected on a three-run triple to score Lorenzo Jerome. Newman finished the night 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Zach Bennett was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Drew Adams led the Vikings (4-7, 3-4) at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and a triple. Ken Wise was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs and Zeb Miller was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Gainesville visits White County at 5:30 p.m. Friday. East Hall visits West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Johnson 6, West Forsyth 5

After trailing by two runs in the fourth inning, the Knights scored three in the last three innings to defeat West Forsyth on Wednesday night in Oakwood.

Bobby Wirsing pitched a complete game for Johnson (4-7, 1-6 Region 7-AAA) while leading the Knights at the plate with two RBIs.

David Jones and Will Rowlett each had two hits and one RBI for Johnson.

Chris Rubessa led West Forsyth (4-6, 3-4 Region 7-AAA) with a home run and two runs. Will Canady had two doubles and two runs for the Wolverines.

Johnson plays host to Flowery Branch at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Lumpkin County 14, West Hall 4

Quentin Self hit a grand slam and Parker Jarrard hit a three-run home run in an 11-run second inning for the Indians in their win against West Hall on Wednesday night in Dahlonega.

Self finished the game 1-for-2 with five RBIs. Jarrard went 1-for-2 with three RBIs. Sunny Pham and Devin Dunson also played well for Lumpkin County (6-4, 4-3 Region 7-AAA), each going 2-for-2.

James Davis picked up the win for the Indians.

Lumpkin County visits Gilmer at 5:30 p.m. Friday. West Hall (3-8, 2-5 Region 7-AAA) plays host to Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Flowery Branch 15, Pickens 5

Cody Ackerman led the Falcons at the plate, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs on Wednesday night in Flowery Branch.

Danny Price was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Cameron Wilson had two RBIs for Flowery Branch (9-2, 5-2 Region 7-AAA).

Matt Pilgrim pitched a complete game for the Falcons, striking out five.

Flowery Branch visits Johnson at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Lakeview Academy 7, Towns County 4

Ralston Cash led the Lions at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI for the Lions in their win against Towns County on Wednesday night in Gainesville.

Ray Collison also contributed for Lakeview (6-4, 4-0 Region 8-A), going 2-for-3, while Haughton Carswell went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and had a stolen base for Lakeview.

Tyler Ward picked up the win for the Lions, striking five and allowing two runs.

Lakeview visits Jefferson at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow. With both teams undefeated in region 8-A, the winner will take sole possession of first place in the region.

Banks County 11, Fannin County 0

Alex Gailey pitched a complete game for Banks County, striking out three and walking one while leading the Leopards (7-5, 4-2 Region 8-AA) at the plate with a home run, three runs and an RBI.

Chase Armour went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs for Banks County. Tyler Hulsey and Kyle Smith each had an RBI for the Leopards.

Banks County visits Union County at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

North Hall girls 1, West Hall 0

Laura Lane scored the lone goal off an assist from Sarah Carlton for Class AAA’s No. 7 ranked Lady Trojans in their win over West Hall on Wednesday night in Gainesville.

North Hall (8-0-1, 6-0 Region 7-AAA) recorded their seventh shutout of the season, stopping a season-high six shots.

North Hall visits Chestatee at 6 p.m. Friday. West Hall (7-6-1, 4-3 Region 7-AAA) plays host to Chestatee at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3.

North Hall girls 5, West Forsyth 1 (Tuesday)

Tess Patton led the Lady Trojans with three goals in their win against West Forsyth on Tuesday night in Gainesville.

Bradee Burrell and Allie Wright also scored for North Hall (7-0-1, 5-0 Region 7-AAA) while Ashley Lackey had two assists.

Dawn Sicchitano scored the lone goal for West Forsyth (3-7, 2-5 Region 7-AAA). The goal is only the second allowed by the Lady Trojans this season.

North Hall plays host to West Hall at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Covenant Christian 3, Westminster Christian 0 (Tuesday)

Madison Dunn and Carmen Rae Torrey led the Wildcats at midfield in their loss against Covenant Christian on Tuesday in Cumming.

Westminster (0-1-1) plays Cherokee Christian on Friday.
