Records: White County (7-3, No. 4 Region 7-AAA); Carver-Atlanta (9-0, No. 1 Region 5-AAA)
Coaches: White County, Gregg Segraves; Carver-Atlanta, Darren Myles
Key players: White County, QB Tyler Norman (5-11, 170 Sr.); WR/DB Brandon Vaught (6-3, 190 Sr.); OL/DL Tyler Hamilton (6-1 235 Soph.). Carver-Atlanta, QB Tiunte Little (6-4, 180 Sr.), RB Desmond Dennis (5-11, 180 Jr.), WR Darren Myles Jr. (6-3 190, Jr.).
Outlook: With his team making its first postseason appearance since 2001, second-year White County coach Gregg Segraves isn’t complaining about going to Atlanta to take on the No. 8 Carver Panthers — especially since his team just locked up the playoff berth last week.
The Warriors’ primary task will be slowing down Carver’s shotgun option offense. White County is young up front, but have gotten solid production from defensive linemen Adam Hooper (92 tackles, freshman), Tyler Hamilton (84 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, sophomore), and Tasi Suaava (71 tackles, six sacks, junior).
The Warriors also feature a ball-hawking secondary led by senior Brandon Vaught (90 tackles, five interceptions) and junior Kevin Frederick (six interceptions).
Prediction: CARVER-ATLANTA. There’s a reason the Panthers are the unbeaten champions of Region 5-AAA.
