Mills and Wirsing take home medals in wrestling tournamnet

Johnson wrestlers Joey Wirsing and Micah Mills earned medals at a tournament held at Winder Barrow High over the weekend. Both wrestlers were the top seed in their respective weight class.

Wirsing finished first at 171 pounds with a second period pin of his opponent from Winder in the tournament finals. He won by pin over a wrestler from Dacula in the semifinals.

He also pinned an opponent from Clarke Central inn 11 seconds earlier in the tournament.

After a loss in the semifinals, Mills wrestled his way back to third place at 189 pounds with consecutive over Clarke Central and Greater Atlanta Christian.

The loss in the semifinals was Mills’ only loss of the tournament. With the score tied at one, Mills’ opponent from Dacula scored a takedown with five second left to win.

Johnson will compete in the Hall County Championships held at Chestatee starting Thursday.
