Senior Dawson County golfer Charley Whitmire shot a career best back-nine 38 to finish fourth overall with a 91 in the girls division of the Coal Mountain Classic.
Whitmire’s score combined with classmate Katie Stower’s 98 was good enough for a fourth place finish for the Lady Tigers as a team with a 189. Dawson County was the smallest school in the tournament. Defending champion Chattahoochee finished with a 173 followed by Pickens County’s 183 and North Gwinnett with a 188.
Trojans fare well in weekend tourney
The North Hall boys track team finished seventh out of 17 teams that competed Saturday at the Peachtree Ridge Invitational.
Nolan Clark won the 3200 with a time of 9:54 and the distance medley relay team of Ty McCormack, Travis McEnaney, Brandon Lawson, and Clark also finished 1st with a time of 10:59.
Peyton Wilhoite finished 3rd in the discus with a throw of 134'11 and Ben Booth placed 4th in the pole vault with a vault of 10'6".
Also finishing in the top 8 were the 4x800m relay team of Clark, McCormack, Reese Walker, and Luis Gonzalez placing 5th, Bryant Parks finishing 6th in the discus, McCormack finishing 6th in the 1600, Zach Bradley finishing 7th in the pole vault, Cody Barger finishing 8th in the 3200, and the sprint medley relay team of Ben Satterfield, Randy Olson, Booth, and Walker also finished 8th.
