Trojans start strong in local tournament
The North Hall High boys basketball team opened play in the annual Oconee County Holiday Classic with a 82-56 rout of Monroe Area on Thursday afternoon in Watkinsville.
Senior guard Josh Haymore led the Trojans (5-3) with 13 points.
Chase Syfan added 11 points and Robert Humphrey contributed 10.
North Hall plays the winner of Jefferson/Oglethorpe County at 5:30 p.m. today.

The Lady Trojans fell short in the opening round of the Oconee County Holiday Classic in Watkinsville as Letiecia Davenport led North Hall (7-2) with 28 points and 11 rebounds.
North Hall senior point guard Elizabeth Williams added 20 points and 13 assists.
The Lady Trojans play Oglethorpe County at 9:30 a.m. today.

Sunland Baptist (Bahamas) 41
Parker Smith led the War Eagles with a game-high 30 points in a first round victory of the Sunshine Classic Tournament on Thursday in Daytona Beach, Fla. Branden Jovaag added 14 and Brandon Smith scored eight for Chestatee.
The War Eagles took control early with a 17-7 lead after the first quarter, and extended their lead to 41-20 at halftime.
Chestatee faces Salem High at 1:30 p.m. today.
Lakeview boys 61, Landrum (S.C.) 56
The Lions came back from a 10-point halftime deficit to get the win in the first round of the Battle of the Border Shootout at Landrum High School in South Carolina.
Tyler Ward led Lakeview with 25 points including seven 3-pointers and David Pruett added 16 points.
The Lions next play at 8:30 tonight when they take on Broom High School out of Spartanburg South Carolina in the second round of the tournament.
