WEST HALL GIRLS 34, JEFFERSON 31: After trailing throughout the first half, then letting its own fourth-quarter lead almost slip away, the Lady Spartans emerged with a hard-fought win.
Jefferson took command early in the game and led 11-3 after the first quarter. But West Hall chipped away and took control after halftime, outscoring the Lady Dragons 10-2 in the third quarter to hold a 24-19 lead.
After Jefferson tied the game and briefly took the lead, West Hall’s Jessica Dambach answered with a 3-pointer that gave the Lady Spartans a 29-27 lead. They never trailed again.
Dambach led West Hall with 10 points, while Amber Johnson added nine.
Jefferson’s Kellie Goza led all scorers with 13 points.
West Hall (5-8) concludes its play in the consolation round at 3 p.m. Wednesday against Flowery Branch. Jefferson (5-6) will play Johnson at noon. Both games will be at West Hall High.
FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 54, JOHNSON 39: The Lady Falcons scored the game’s first seven points and never gave Johnson much of a chance to get back in the game.
Led by the scoring of forward tandem sophomore Tavia Sykes (17 points) and junior Cara Chilton (14 points), the Lady Falcons led by 14 at halftime and 23 at the end of the third quarter before the Lady Knights found a rhythm on offense.
Caitlin Sloan led Johnson with 15 points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Falcons (2-7) will play West Hall at 3 p.m. Wednesday in their final game of the tournament. The Lady Knights (5-4) wrap up their tournament run against Jefferson at noon Wednesday. Both games will be played at West Hall High.
