Behind tight defense and a couple of clutch free throws down the stretch, the Chestatee girls were able to hang on for a 41-37 win over Gainesville in the third-place game of the Lanierland tournament on Thursday at Johnson High School.

Keke Harris knocked down a 3-pointer for the Lady Red Elephants to put them in the lead with just 1:33 remaining in the game, but Chestatee (8-3) responded with a quick basket and three free throws from Bridgett Kelly in the final minute to secure the victory.

The win gave the Lady War Eagles a third-place finish in the tournament. Gainesville took fourth.

Kelly finished with 10 points in the game, second on the team to Maegan Kenimer's 18. Hunter Pugh led Gainesville with 11 points and Rebecca Webster added 10.

Gainesville (8-4) will host West Hall next on Jan. 3; Chestatee plays in the Allatoona Christmas Tournament beginning on Dec. 27 at Allatoona High.
