Johnson, Lumpkin County girls each earn berth in state golf meet

Johnson’s girls golf team placed sixth and Lumpkin County’s girls took 11th at the Class AAAA sectionals on Monday at Applewood Golf Course in Waynesboro.

Lauren Smith led the Lady Knights with a 94, Kristin Waters carded a 98, and Taylor Young shot a 106 for Johnson. For Lumpkin County, Morgan Wood carded a 99, Taylor Gooch shot a 106, and Hannah Fowler rounded out the scorers for the Lady Indians with a 114.

Both teams travel to the Class AAAA state meet on May 20 at Nob North Golf Club in Cohutta.
