Jose Reyes and Bart Velasquez both won their first-round matches for Chestatee in the opening round of the Class AAAA traditional wrestling state tournament on Thursday at the Macon Centreplex in Macon. Reyes (38-4), at 106 pounds, defeated Cairo High’s Bryan Johnson (43-10) in his only match of the day, and Velasquez (28-6) beat Alexander’s Bryce Holloman (31-13) to start off the tournament. The other six War Eagles in the tournament fell in the first round but will continue their quest to become state placers when the wrestleback rounds start tomorrow.
