The Flowery Branch high girls soccer team opened the Class AAA state playoffs with a first-round 2-1 win against Region 8-AAA’s top seed Oconee County on Thursday in Watkinsville.

With the win, the Lady Falcons (12-7) avenge a playoff loss to the Lady Warriors that ended their season last year.

Joy Smith led the Flowery Branch offense, scoring once in the first half, then securing the win with another in the second.

The Lady Falcons advance to the second round of the playoffs for the second straight season, where they will visit the winner of Grady and Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.
