High school scoreboard: White County wins season opener

The White County baseball team opened its regular season with a 6-4 win against Franklin County on Wednesday in Carnesville.

Kyle Mills picked up his first career win, striking out eight while allowing one hit in 4 2/3 innings for the Warriors (1-0). Luke Crumley recorded the save.

Kevin Frederick stole five bases for White County.

White County visits Creekview at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

North Forsyth 5, North Hall 4

The Raiders scored all their runs in the final three innings to win Wednesday at Piedmont College in Demorest.

Jacob Brewster was 2-for-3 for North Hall (0-2). Trey Pinson had two RBIs and K.J. McAllister added one RBI for the Trojans.

North Hall visits West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

West Hall 16, Habersham Central 8 (Tuesday)

The Spartans pounded out 14 hits and scored nine runs in the last three innings to sweep a two-game series with Habersham Central on Tuesday in Mount Airy.

Scott Eichler led West Hall (2-0) with three hits and three runs scored. Luis Delgado scored four runs. Max Everitt had two hits and four RBIs and Brandon Grindle and Travis Clemens each added two hits.

Josh Preston picked up the win for the Spartans, pitching four innings and striking out four.

Johnathan Thomas led Habersham Central (0-2) with three hits, while Kyle Barrett added two hits.

West Hall plays host to East Hall at 1 p.m. Saturday. Habersham Central faces Colquitt County at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Clarke Central High in Athens.

Lakeview Academy boys 1, Pickens 0

Charlie Parks picked up a rebound after Oscar Acevedo’s shot and buried it for the lone goal in a Mountain Madness Tournament win Wednesday in Blue Ridge.

Goalkeeper James Bagwell made nine saves, including two breakaway stops for Lakeview (2-0).

Defender Grey Hallock prevented two Pickens shots that slipped past Bagwell from finding the net with 10 minutes left to play in the game.

Lakeview plays in the tournament championship game against the winner of Hart County and Gilmer on Saturday.

Greater Atlanta Christian girls 3, North Hall 2 (Tuesday)

The Lady Spartans scored two goals in the final eight minutes to secure victory on Tuesday night in Norcross.

Anna Marchman scored the game’s first goal for North Hall on a cross pass from Julia Matthews.

Early in the second half, Marchman headed a pass that Heather Strickland volleyed into the net from 20 yards out giving the Lady Trojans a 2-1 lead.

North Hall visits West Hall to open Region 7-AAA play at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in Oakwood.

Jackson County girls 3, Hebron Christian 3 (Tuesday)

Janette Gee, Lexi Miller and Mary Collin each scored for the Lady Panthers on Tuesday in Dacula.

Jackson County (2-0-1) plays host to Oglethorpe County at 5 p.m. Friday.

TENNIS

North Forsyth boys 3, Johnson 2

The Knights came one match short of a road win Wednesday in Cumming.

William Anthony won a singles match for Johnson (1-2), defeating North Forsyth’s Devin Hosea, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Paul Neese and Casey Tanner added a doubles win for the Knights, winning in straight sets.

Johnson visits Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

North Forsyth girls 3, Johnson 2

Annabeth Peace picked up the lone singles win for the Lady Knights on Wednesday in Cumming.

Laura Gazaway and Claire Crain won a doubles match for Johnson in straight sets.

Johnson visits Flowery Branch at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Central Gwinnett boys 3, Flowery Branch 2

Curtis Stream won a singles match and the team of Nathan Spill and Gary Reed won a doubles match for the Falcons, but it was one win shy of Flowery Branch’s first team win Wednesday in Lawrenceville.

Flowery Branch (0-2) plays host to Riverside Military at 4 p.m. today.

Chestatee boys 5, East Hall 0

Max Gingles, Abraham Montoya and Jonathan Cook each won singles matches for the War Eagles on Wednesday at Chestatee High.

Chestatee completed the sweep in doubles with wins from the team of Scott McConnell and Justin Byers and the team of Matt Olson and Graham Kosiba.

Chestatee plays host to White County at 4 p.m. today. East Hall visits Gainesville at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.
