The Buford Lady Wolves’s softball team continued to shine on Wednesday at the Buford Invitational Tournament with wins over St. Pius X 6-3 and Dunwoody 4-2.

In Buford’s first game, Lexi Overstreet and freshman Jordan Deep both went 2 for 3 with 2-run home runs and two RBIs for the Lady Wolves.

Kallie Case went 3 for 3 with a double, scored two runs and stole two bases for Buford.

Tessa Daniels (4-1) was the winning pitcher. She threw a complete game and struck out three St. Pius batters.

In their game versus Dunwoody, Rachel Stopper earned the win in the pitcher’s circle, going 5 2/3 innings with two strikeouts.

Daniels came in with the bases loaded and earned the save.

Again, Overstreet and Deep hit home runs. Overstreet’s was a solo shot, while Deep knocked in two Buford runs two batters later.

Madison Wynegar added an RBI for the Lady Wolves.


Buford (8-6) continues play at 4:30 p.m. on Friday in the Buford Invitational hosting West Forsyth.

FLOWERY BRANCH 4, JEFFERSON 2: Flowery Branch’s Meghan Pritchard was 2 for 3 with an RBI to help push the Lady Falcons past Jefferson in six innings because of a time limit Wednesday at the Buford Invitational.

The Lady Dragons’ Jordan Phillips was also 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Class AA No.1 Jefferson (7-11, 5-1 Region 8-AA) plays at 5:55 p.m. today and hosts Class AA No. 2 Jackson County before resuming play in the Buford Invitational.

DAWSON COUNTY 3, UNION COUNTY 0: Jenna Abbot pitched a shut-out and had 11 strikeouts for the Lady Tigers on Tuesday, avenging Dawson County’s only loss which came at the hands of the Lady Warriors earlier this season.

Dawson County will play at Fannin County at 5:55 p.m. on Thursday.

Volleyball

NORTH HALL WINS TRI-MATCH: Marykate Rushton had 11 aces, two blocks, one kill and four digs to lead the Lady Trojans to victory over Lanier 25-12, 25-13, and Johnson 25-12, 28-26 Wednesday night in Sugar Hill.
In the loss Johnson’s Casey Sumner had six aces, and Legavian Ratliff had five kills and four digs.

North Hall’s Marykate Rushton had 11 aces, 2 blocks, 1 kill, 4 digs McKenna Rushton had three aces, two kills and one block to go along with Kristina Gregory’s four assists, four kills and four aces.

Kelly Chance had three aces as the Lady Knights beat Lanier 25-16, 25-14. Johnson’s Kelsey Painter and Lindsey Anderson added three aces and kills, respectively.

Johnson (5-9, 1-3 Region 8-AAA) plays at the East Hall playdate on Saturday.

North Hall plays in a tri-match at Lakeview at 5 p.m. today.

BUFORD SPLITS TRI-MATCH: Bailey Hicks tallied 22 assists and seven digs as the Wolves defeated Grayson 25-12, 25-9 and lost to North Gwinnett 23-25, 14-25 Wednesday in Suwanee.

Maggie Roper had 11 kills, 18 digs and five aces to add to Jessica Falletta’s six kills and five aces for Buford.

Buford will host a playdate at noon on Saturday. It will face Paideia, Clarkston and Decateur.
