Bush leads Buford softball to win

Sophomore Bria Bush led the Buford softball team over Mount Pisgah Christian 5-1 on Saturday at the Score Invitational in Chattanooga Tenn., where the Lady Wolves had defeated a pair of teams Friday night as well.

Bush (11-1) threw her 10th complete game of the season, with five strikeouts, four hits allowed and one unearned run in four innings. Buford freshman Drew Puckett finished 1 for 2 at the plate with a triple and two RBIs, Jordan Deet hit a double and also drove in a pair and Niki Cook finished 1 for 2 with a run scored.

On Friday, Buford (17-1, 5-0 7-AAA) held off Mustang (Okla.) 2-1 on the strength of a career-high 12 strikeouts for Bush. At the plate, Niki Cook was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two stolen bases, Noah Sudderth finished 2 for 3, Puckett was 1 for 3 with a pair of runs scored and Remington Hasty added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

In the second game Friday the Lady Wolves slipped by Calhoun 3-2 after sophomore Tessa Daniels broke open a tie in the final inning with a run-scoring double. Sophomore Emily Crocker pitched two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win for Buford. On offense, Abbey Mitchell was 2 for 2 with a double and a run scored, Hasty finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and Cook was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Buford returns to region play at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday against Dawson County in Buford.


The seventh-ranked East Hall Lady Vikings won two of four matches Saturday at the Darlington Invitational.

The Lady Vikings defeated Dalton (26-24,17-25,15-10) and Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe (25-16,25-20), before falling to Harris County (17-25,18-25) and Dalton (22-25,23-25).

Brittney Campbell had 17 points on serve, seven aces, 15 digs, six kills and 67 assists for East Hall. Emily Hoggard had 15 kills and 27 digs, Kara Hix added 75 digs, Tarryn Long had 12 aces, 38 kills and 33 digs and TT Shelton scored 23 points on serve and 17 digs.

The Lady Vikings (18-9, 2-2 5-AAA) will play Tuesday at Blessed Trinity against Decatur and Blessed Trinity in 5-AAA area play.
