The Buford softball team advanced to the Region 6-AA softball finals and secured a spot in the state playoffs with an 8-2 win Tuesday against Greater Atlanta Christian. The Lady Wolves’ winning pitcher was Bria Bush (8-3), who threw her seventh complete game on the season. She gave up two hits, two earned runs and struck out seven Lady Spartans batters. Offensively, the Lady Wolves were led by Kodi Ricketson who went 1 for 2 with a three-run home run to put Buford ahead 3-0 in the third inning. She also scored three runs. Buford’s Callie Case went 2-5 with an inside-the-park, two-run home run, run scored and a stolen base. Buford (25-8) plays the winner of Blessed Trinity and GAC elimination game at 6 p.m. tonight at Lovett. Volleyball NORTH HALL SWEEPS TRI-MATCH: North Hall won matches against Johnson (21-25, 25-14, 25-4) and Gainesville (25-19, 25-16) on Tuesday night in Gainesville. McKenna Rushton had 10 kills, six aces and three blocks for the Lady Trojans. Sarah Paschall had seven digs, four kills, two aces and a block for North Hall. Johnson picked up a win versus Gainesville (25-20, 25-22). Karis Sloan had eight kills and a block for Johnson on the night, and Kelly Chance came away with five aces, two kills and two assists. Gainesville’s Kaylin Walden had 13 assists, seven kills and four digs. Johnson (17-18, 5-4 Area 8-AAA) Gainesville (21-10, 5-3), North Hall (19-18, 4-4) start the region tournament on Thursday. BUFORD WINS TWO MATCHES: The Lady Wolves picked up wins versus Clarkston (25-9, 25-3) and Padeia (25-17, 25-19) and lost to Providence (20-25, 25-23, 25-15) on Tuesday night. Maggie Roper had 24 kills and 14 digs on the night, and Jessica Falletta had 20 aces, 15 digs and 12 kills for Buford. Bailey Hicks added 51 assists, while McKenzie Darrah had 15 kills and Mikhayla Riegel had 18 digs for the Lady Wolves. Buford (21-12) plays Hebron Christian at Providence in the first round of the Area 6-A/AA tournament at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
