Three area cross country teams had strong showings at the Last Chance Invitational in Carrollton on Saturday.
Running the state course two weeks before the state competition, the girls teams of North Hall, White County and West Hall made up the top three finishers, respectively.
Taylor Long of West Hall won the race in 20 minutes, 4 seconds while White County's Jessie Dotson took second in 20:09.
The top five was rounded out with two more area runners, Savannah Smith of West Hall and Victoria Rogers of North Hall, who finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
In the boys race, North Hall took second place behind Woodward Academy. White County took seventh and West Hall finished at No. 10.
Trojans senior Brandon Lawson won the race in 16:27, 17 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Whit Nix and Bryce Schuebert of North Hall finished in seventh and eight place.
The Region 8-AAA championship meet will take place on Thursday at Unicoi State Park in Helen. Varsity boys will run at 4:45 p.m., and the girls will run at 5:30 p.m.
