Jordan Deep led Buford with a pair of home runs in a first-round sweep of Sonoraville in the Class AAA softball tournament on Wednesday in Buford.

Deep hit a solo homer in Game 1, which the Lady Wolves won 11-0. In the 7-1 victory in Game 2, Deep had another homer in the seventh inning to seal the sweep. She finished the night 5 for 7 with six total RBIs and three runs scored.

In Game 1, Bria Bush earned the win pitching with six strikeouts over five innings, and Niki Cook went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Drew Puckett was 2 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Baylee Sexton was 2 for 3.

Emily Crocker got the win from the circle in Game 2, and Kennedy Kotula earned the save. Tessa Daniels hit a two-run home run in the top of the first to give Buford (31-0) the lead, Sydney Stavro went 1 for 2 with an RBI double and Remington Hasty finished 2 for 3.

The Lady Wolves play host to Morgan County in the second round of the state tournament on Wednesday in Buford.

JEFFERSON SPLITS IN FIRST ROUND: Olivia Husted hit a two-run single and earned the win pitching for the Lady Dragons as they defeated Westminster 8-0 in the first game of a best-of-three series in Round 1 of the Class AA state softball tournament on Wednesday in Jefferson.

Erin Jackson added a two-run double in the first inning for Jefferson, and Jordan Phillips had an RBI single.

The Lady Dragons fell 2-0 in the second game against Westminster. Arynn Baker went 2 for 3.

Jefferson faces Westminster in a decisive Game 3 at 4:30 today in Jefferson.

Volleyball

JEFFERSON ADVANCES TO ROUND TWO: The Lady Dragons defeated Toombs County in straight sets 25-6, 25-13, 25-5 in the first round of the Class AA state tournament on Wednesday in Jefferson.

Jefferson faces the winner of the Temple/Calhoun match on Tuesday.

BUFORD WINS IN STRAIGHT SETS: Morgan Mitchell tallied 15 assists for Buford as they defeated Cartersville 25-12, 25-15, 25-9 in the first round of the Class AAA state tournament on Wednesday in Cartersville.

Maggie Roper and Gabby Curry each added six kills for the Lady Wolves, which host Bulloch County in the second round of the state tournament on Tuesday in Buford.

NORTH HALL SWEPT: Kristina Gregory had 15 assists, one ace and one dig to lead the Lady Trojans in a 3-0 first-round loss (25-20, 32-30, 25-15) to Sonoraville on Wednesday in Calhoun.

Sydney Cleveland recorded eight kills, five digs and one block. Julie Daniels tallied five kills and three digs, and Makenzie Bryant added 10 digs.

North Hall’s season is complete with the loss.
