North Hall senior Harper Seymour defended her state championship, throwing the discus 127 feet for the Class AAAA state title Thursday at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany.
Her state championship throw, on her final attempt, was enough for the win by six inches over Bryanna Scott of Thomas County Central. Seymour, this season, also won the Region 8-AAAA title and threw the discus 107-9.5 for a Hall County championship on March 22.
Also in Class AAAA, White County’s Rachel Gearing took third place in the triple jump Friday with a distance of 37-6. In the 1600 meter run, White County’s Jenna Gearing took fourth (5:23).
On Saturday, the state championship meet concludes with finals in the running events.
