Top-ranked St. Pius X scored off a free kick 20 minutes into the game and added another with less than two minutes remaining in Wednesday's 2-0 win over Gainesville (15-4) in Atlanta.

The loss ends the season for the Class AAA defending champions.

"I'm disappointed we didn't progress," coach Rick Howard said. "The guys gave their heart and worked hard.

"St. Pius is very good," he added. "We hung with them, but we couldn't get any scoring opportunities."

Howard said the Lions (17-0-1) took advantage of Gainesville's increased attack in the second half to score their second goal.
