The Jefferson Dragons won the Region 8-AA championship Friday by sweeping a doubleheader against Riverside Military.

The Dragons (22-3, 19-1) won Game 1, 14-1, and Game 2, 14-4.

Drew Carson went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs to pace the way for the win in Game 1. Jamie Sexton also hit a home run during Game 1 and finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Jake Fields allowed only one hit and struck out seven to pick up the win in Game 1.

In Game 2, Fields, who had four RBIs, hit two of Jefferson’s four home runs with the others hit by Kyle Hardy and Brian Cox.

Lucas Redd picked up the win.

Jefferson plays host to Crawford County on Friday in the first round of the Class AA state playoffs.

GAINESVILLE 10, LAMBERT 8 (Friday): Will Maddox went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to cap an undefeated season in region play.

K.J. McAllister went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Michael Lorentz went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs for Gainesville (24-1, 19-0 Region 7-AAA).

David Gonzalez struck out four batters in 2 2/3 innings to earn the save.

The Red Elephants play host to Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe on Friday in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs.

WEST HALL 10, EAST HALL 3 (Friday): Max Everitt struck out 13 Vikings en route to a win Friday.
Everitt pitched a complete game and also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored for West Hall (5-20).

Cody Simpson went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Brandon Grindle went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs for the Spartans.

The two teams’ season is now complete.
