Webster stops Oconee County in pks in 2-1 win for Gainesville

Rebecca Webster led Gainesville (10-2, 8-0 Region 8-AAA South) recording 11 saves in goal, including three penalty kicks in a 2-1 win against Oconee County on Monday night in Watkinsville. Liza Carpenter led the Lady Red Elephants’ offense, scoring the lone goal in regulation time.

After a scoreless overtime, Carpenter, Jazmine Penado and Mary Catherine Dempsey each converted penalties for the Lady Red Elephants to finish 3-2.

Gainesville hosts North Hall at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Park.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 1, OCONEE COUNTY 0: Douglas Mejia scored for the Red Elephants off an assist from Ricardo Gomez on Monday night in Watkinsville. Edgar Espinoza earned the shutout in goal for Gainesville (12-1, 9-0 Region 8-AAA South).

The Red Elephants host North Hall at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at City Park.


JEFFERSON 8, NORTH OCONEE 4: Tyler Cole led the Dragons (7-6, 3-3 Region 8-AA South) with a grand slam on Monday night in Jefferson. Micah Carpenter went 2 for 4 with one RBI for the Dragons. Carpenter also earned the win, allowing only five hits with eight strikeouts in seven innings.

Jefferson hosts Oglethorpe County at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

WHITE COUNTY 3, LUMPKIN COUNTY 1: Brandon McConnell led the Warriors (8-5, 2-5 Region 8-AAA North) with a single in the second inning to drive in two runs on Monday night in Dahlonega. Spencer Adams went 2 for 3 and earned the win for White County.

The Warriors visit Stephens County at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.

FLOWERY BRANCH 7, HABERSHAM CENTRAL 2: Logan Conley and Drew Miles each had home runs for the Falcons (9-3, 3-1 Region 8-AAAA) on Monday night in Mount Airy. Miles went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for Flowery Branch, Andrew Laur went 2 for 2 with two RBIs and Keltin Devoe went 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Chase Hulsey earned the win for the Falcons.

Flowery Branch hosts Habersham Central at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.

STEPHENS COUNTY 6, NORTH HALL 5: Griffin Olson led the Trojans (8-5, 5-2 Region 8-AAA North), going 3 for 4 at the plate on Monday night in Toccoa.

North Hall hosts Franklin County at 5:55 p.m. Wednesday.


GAINESVILLE BOYS 4, LANIER 1: Connor McMorrow recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win for the Red Elephants at No. 1 singles on Monday afternoon.

No. 1 doubles duo Graham McKinnon and Jake Maddox added a 6-2, 6-0 win for Gainesville.

The Red Elephants host Walnut Grove at 4:30 p.m. today.

BANKS COUNTY BOYS 5, EAST JACKSON 0: Jake Schaefer recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles for the Leopards on Monday afternoon in Homer. No. 1 doubles duo Chris Willis and Justin Yang added a 6-1, 6-0 win for Banks County.

The Leopards visit Dawson County at 4 p.m. today.

OCONEE COUNTY BOYS 3, WEST HALL 2: Brenden Worth and Min Kim recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles for the Spartans (11-4, 7-2 Region 8-AAA South), and Tatum Scroggs added a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles on Monday afternoon.

West Hall hosts Lanier today.

CHESTATEE BOYS 4, JOHNSON 1: No. 1 singles player Jonathan Cook recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win for the War Eagles on Monday afternoon in Gainesville. No. 1 doubles duo Blaine Brown and Reed Johnson added a 6-4, 6-4 win for Chestatee.

The War Eagles visit Stephens County on Tuesday.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 3, JOHNSON 2: Katie Arthur and Grace Brown came back from losing their first set to record a 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles for the Lady War Eagles on Monday afternoon in Gainesville. Haley King and Carolina Gijon added a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles for Chestatee.

Maggie Turner won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Lady Knights, and Harlee Robson added a 6-1, 6-3 win.

The Lady War Eagles visit Stephens County on Tuesday.


GAINESVILLE BOYS TAKE THIRD: The Red Elephants finished in third place out of nine competing schools on Saturday at the Amicalola Invitational in Dawsonville.
Marcquel Woodard had a first-place finish and set meet records in the 800 and 1600 for Gainesville.
Victor Alarcon finished second in shot put while setting a personal record (47 feet, 8 inches) for Gainesville, and finished second in discus. Patrick McKibben finished third in the discus for the Red Elephants, and Ben Liu set a personal record in the pole vault (11-0).

Dallas Defoor earned second in the 200 meters and third in the 100 for Gainesville. The 400 relay team of Woodard, Orion Ragland, Pablo Alberto, and Defoor and the 1600 relay team of DeFoor, Alex Longoria, Esteban Salazar, and Woodard finished in second place for the Red Elephants.

WEST HALL GIRLS 91, JEFFERSON 102: Olivia Davis led the Lady Spartans with a 44 and Malorie Smith added a 47 on Monday afternoon at Traditions Golf Club in Braselton.

West Hall will play Lanier at 4 p.m. today at Royal Lakes.
WEST HALL BOYS 184, JEFFERSON 186: Kip O’Kelley led the Spartans with a 44 on Monday afternoon at Traditions Golf Club in Braselton.

Justin Harkleroad and Ryan Allen each shot a 46 for West Hall. Blair Cain finished with a 41 for the Dragons.
The Spartans will play Lanier at 4 p.m. today at Royal Lakes.
