The Gainesville boys golf team won its second consecutive Georgia-South Carolina Cup on Saturday at Willow Creek Golf Course in Greer, S.C.
The Red Elephants recorded a two-day team score of 601, including a 298 in the second round. The tournament is considered to have one of the toughest high school fields in the Southeast.
Nathan Williams and Pep Brown were named to the all-tournament team after shooting a 146 and 148, respectively. Williams had the lowest single round for this team in the second round when he carded a 71.
Spencer Ralston added to Gainesville’s team score with a 152, shooting a 76 both days. He sank a hole-in-one on No. 16 in the second round.
Jackson Bishop and Lawson King rounded out the Red Elephants’ top five with a 155 and 160, respectively. Grant Lasseter carded a 156 and Reeves Bell added a 163.
GAINESVILLE GIRLS PLACE SECOND: The Lady Red Elephants’ finished runner-up by shooting a team score of 239 at a tournament Saturday.
Gainesville finished eight strokes behind tournament winner Lakeside-Evans, the 2012 Class AAAA state champion.
Meg Callahan finished third overall and was named to the all-tournament team. Morgan Reece shot an 81, followed by Madeline Harr at 82. Ashleigh Bishop won the junior varsity division with an 8-over-par score of 80.
