The Gainesville boys golf team took second place among six teams Saturday at Chateau Elan Golf Course.

The Red Elephants shot a 294 as a team, 11 strokes behind Johns Creek.

Pep Brown shot a 70 individually to tie for second on the day. Jackson Bishop added a 72 for the Red Elephants.

Richmond Academy and Habersham Central tied for the third at 306, followed by North Hall (309), St Pius X (328).

Gainesville’s next event will be the Georgia-South Carolina Cup on Friday and Saturday at The Orchard in Clarkesville.

GAINESVILLE GIRLS 173, WEST HALL 189: The Lady Red Elephants defeated West Hall in an 18-hole stroke play match at Monroe County Club in Monroe. Madeline Harr shot an 86 for Gainesville, while Meg Callahan carded an 87.

Malorie Smith shot an 87 for West Hall.

Track

NORTH HALL BOYS AND GIRLS TAKE THIRD, FIFTH AT MEET: The North Hall boys track team finished in third place out of 11 teams at the Oconee/Barberitos track meet in Watkinsville on Saturday.

Cedar Shoals (92.5 points) and Oconee County (80) took first and second, respectively. The Trojans finished just one point behind Oconee County at 79.

Luis Gonzalez finished in first place in the 800-meter run (2:00.6) and second in the 1600-meter (4:25.3). Tucker LoCicero was first in the 3200-meter (10:17.8), and Witt Nix was second in the 800-meter (2:01.7).

The Lady Trojans took fifth in the girls competition. Victoria Rogers was first in the 3200-meter (12:06.8) and second in the 1600-meter (5:39.4), and Gabrielle Hoffman was second in the pole vault and third in the 100 hurdles (17.54).

North Hall’s next track meet is Tuesday at White County.

Soccer

NORTH GEORGIA CHRISTIAN BOYS 2, NEW CREATION CHRISTIAN 0: Tristan Diepenbrock picked up the first goal for the Chargers, assisted by Dylan Boonstra, and Jonah Martin added the second to help the North Georgia boys earn a win Saturday.

The Chargers (6-3) play Monday against Heritage Christian Academy at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex.

CHESTATEE 1, RIVERSIDE MILITARY 1 (Friday): After falling behind 1-0 on a score off of a corner kick from the War Eagles, Riverside tied it up in the second half when Gabriel Rodriguez sent a 25-yard shot to the back of the net. He was assisted by Seung Hyun Kang.

Victor Salcido recorded four saves for the Eagles (7-1-1, 2-0 Region 8-A).

Riverside plays Towns County on Tuesday.

Baseball

NORTH HALL 12, WALNUT GROVE 1 (Friday): The Trojans won easily at Walnut Grove on Friday behind six strong innings of work from starting pitcher Preston Graham, who allowed one run on four hits and struck out five batters.

After a 45-minute lightning delay, Colton Duttweiler pitched a scoreless seventh inning to close out the game.

At the plate, Andrew Smith went 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Griffin Olson and Cody Fowler each added three hits and an RBI, and Zach Mize had two hits, including a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

The Trojans (6-3, 3-0 8-AAA) play next at 5:55 p.m. Monday at Lumpkin County.

EAST HALL 10, BANKS COUNTY 9 (Friday): The Vikings trailed by five runs in the second inning, but were able to recover for a win on Friday at Banks County.

Austin Tompkins led the way, going 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI at the plate. He also stole five bases, including home in the sixth inning. The Vikings finished with 12 stolen bases as a team.

Hunter Warwick picked up the win for the Vikings, who face Rabun County on Monday at East Hall Park.
