High school scoreboard: Lumpkin County golfers win opener

The Lumpkin County boys golf team opened its regular season with a 157-171 win against Dawson County on Thursday at Achasta Golf Course in Dahlonega.

Austin Fowler was the low medalist of the day, shooting a 36 for the Indians. Aaron George followed with a 39. Ben Jarrard shot a 40 and Cody Fleming had a 42 for Lumpkin County.

Cody Palmer led Dawson County with a 41. Justin Denard and Nick Fitts each shot a 43 and Wesley Bearden had a 44.

Lumpkin County plays host to Roswell at 3:45 p.m. Thursday at Achasta. Dawson County plays host to Fannin County at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Crystal Falls Golf Course in Dawsonville.

TENNIS

East Hall boys 3, Riverside Military 1

Playing eight-game pro sets due to wind conditions, the Vikings earned a win in their season opener Thursday at East Hall Park.

Dustin Turpin and Peter Truong each won singles matches for East Hall (1-0).

Ernie Rodriguez and Patricio Cruz won a doubles match for the Vikings. Dane Allen and Isaac Salazar also won an exhibition doubles match.

East Hall plays host to Chestatee at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Riverside visits North Hall at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Chestatee boys 4, Gilmer 1

The War Eagles earned its first win of the season Thursday in Ellijay.

Adam Yates and Abraham Montoya each won singles matches for Chestatee (1-1, 1-1 Region 7B-AAA).

The doubles team of Scott McConnell and Justin Byers clinched the win for the War Eagles with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Matt Olson and Graham Kosiba added another win for Chestatee.

Chestatee visits Creekview at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

West Hall girls 4, North Forsyth 1

Kaylin Walters and Chelsea Britt set the winning pace for the Lady Spartans, winning singles in straight sets Thursday at Alberta Banks Park in Oakwood.

The doubles team of Kayla Cansler and Samantha Lingle and the team of Erica Grainger and Ellie Smith each added to the win total in straight sets.

West Hall plays host to Central Gwinnett on Tuesday.

North Forsyth boys 3, West Hall 2

The Spartans won both doubles matches of day, but could not get the team win after being swept by North Forsyth’s singles players Thursday in Oakwood.

The team of Andrew Johnson and Connor McFall and the team of Nathan Turner and Steven Backus each won the doubles matches for West Hall (0-2).

West Hall plays host to Central Gwinnett on Tuesday.
