High school scoreboard: Late-inning drive earns Buford region win

Class AA’s top-ranked Buford High softball team earned an important 4-1 win against No. 7- ranked region opponent Greater Atlanta Christian on Thursday in Norcross.

The Lady Wolves (14-2, 2-0 Regon 6-AA) broke a 1-1 tie with a three-run eighth inning that earned them the eventual win.

Karly Fullem earned her seventh win of the season in the circle for Buford, pitching all eight innings and striking out four.

Whitney Holman was 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run scored and two RBIs for the Lady Wolves. Lexi Overstreet and Andrea Hannah each doubled for Buford.

Buford plays host to Blessed Trinity at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

White County 5, West Hall 2

Stephanie Satterfield struck out 13 batters for the Lady Warriors en route to her ninth win of the season, handing West Hall its first region loss of the year Thursday in Cleveland.

Satterfield was also 2-for-3 with a run scored for White County (10-4, 5-2 Region 7-AAA). Emma Cummins and Lindsay Messmore each were 2-for-3. Krista Woody hit a two-run double in the first inning to give the Lady Warriors an early lead.

White County visits Fannin County at 5 p.m. today.

East Hall 4, Flowery Branch 2

Kayla McDougald picked up the win for the Lady Vikings with three strikeouts, all in the final inning, on Thursday night in Flowery Branch.

Victoria Webb and Hannah Strickland each had two hits and an RBI for East Hall (4-10, 2-5 Region 7-AAA).

East Hall and Flowery Branch will participate in the North Fall Classic at North Georgia College & State University. East Hall plays Lovett at 4:30 p.m., and Union County at 6:30 p.m., while Flowery Branch plays Chestatee at 4:30 p.m., and Habersham Central at 8 p.m.

Johnson sweeps tri-meet

The Lady Knights picked up two wins against Lakeview Academy (25-20, 18-25, 25-20) and Greene County (25-16, 25-13) on Thursday in Gainesville.

Laura Gazaway had 11 digs, Shelley Farley had 11 assists and Katie Clark had eight kills for Johnson (8-4, 1-1 Area 7-AAA) against Lakeview Academy.

Mary Fiorentino had four kills, Hani Hernandez had three kills, and Kellsie Brisbois had five aces for the Lady Knights against Greene County.

Lakeview (6-9, 4-3 Area 8-AA/A) also defeated Greene County (25-13, 25-11) after its loss to Johnson. Emilie Norton finished the night with 13 assists and four digs. Liz Clark had four kills and four aces.

Megan Rochester had three aces and three blocks. Louisa Jacobs had four kills, Heather Styles had three aces and three blocks and Jessica Berzack added five assists.

Johnson will participate in the Darlington Inivational on Saturday. Lakeview Academy plays host to Buford and Greater Atlanta Christian at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Buford unbeaten in tri-meet

The Lady Wolves swept a tri-meet against St. Francis (25-9, 25-13) and Gainesville (23-25, 25-13, 25-22) on Thursday in Buford.

Hannah Peretz had seven kills and aces for Buford (9-5, 1-0 Area 4-AA/A). Elizabeth Darden had 18 digs. Denee Badois had 12 aces and six kills.

Gainesville also defeated St. Francis (25-23, 25-12) before its loss to Buford. Kiki Thompson finished the night with 10 kills, five digs, two blocks and one ace for the Lady Red Elephants (3-12, 0-2 Area 7-AAA). Loren Thomas had 10 assists, four digs, four blocks and three aces. Jasmine Jones had three kills and seven blocks. Somer Graham had six assists, three kills, 12 digs, one block and one ace. Kate Callahan had four aces, two kills, one dig and seven blocks.

Buford visits Lakeview Academy at 5 p.m. Tuesday against Lakeview Academy and Greater Atlanta Christian. Gainesville participates in the Winder-Barrow Tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Chestatee wins two on the road

The Lady War Eagles picked up two road wins against Eastside (25-14, 25-22) and Alcovy (25-15, 25-19) on Thursday in Covington.

Charlotte Hill had one ace and 10 assists, Alura Roe had one ace and three kills, Jenifer Hill had one ace, three kills and one assist and Emily Wilks had four aces, one kill and one assist for Chestatee (10-5, 1-2 Area 7-AAA) against Eastside.

Ali Burnette had four aces, four kills, one assist and two digs, Madisen Yates had four kills and one assist and Jessica Porter had 10 digs, one kill and one assist for the Lady War Eagles against Alcovy.
Chestatee visits Gilmer at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

North Hall splits tournament opener

The Lady Trojans opened the Collins Hill Classic with a loss to Parkview (25-18, 25-21) and a win against Providence Christian (25-10, 25-16) on Thursday in Suwanee.

Evan Rowland had five kills, eight aces and a service run of nine for North Hall (10-6, 3-0 Area 7-AAA). Kathryn Bell had 16 assists and seven kills. Katherine Filchak had seven kills and three blocks. Anna Marchman had five kills. Betsy Burns had three kills and three blocks.

North Hall returns to Collins Hill to play the Eagles at 8 a.m. Saturday.

West Hall earns split at Monroe Area

The Lady Spartans rebounded from a loss to Monroe Area with a win against Madison County on Thursday at Monroe Area.

Abigail Grindle had 10 kills, eight digs and four aces, McKenzie Jackson had six kills, Erica Grainger had six kills and 10 assists, and Jessica Hollis had 11 digs and six aces for the Lady Spartans.

West Hall will participate in the Darlington Invitational on Saturday.
