High school scoreboard: Lakeview stays undefeated

The Lakeview Academy baseball team remained unbeaten on the season with a 4-1 win against Franklin County on Thursday night in Carnesville.

Lions’ starter Ralston Cash pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts and didn’t allow an earned run.

Haughton Carswell, a senior, led Lakeview Academy at the plate with two hits, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Taylor Simpson was 1-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored for the Lions (6-0, 2-0 Region 8-A).

Lakeview Academy plays host to St. Francis at 4:30 p.m. today.

Flowery Branch 10, Creekview 6

Flowery Branch’s Cory Sanderson was 3-for-4 with a triple, home run and three RBI’s on Thursday night at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex.

Brad Stone, James Mills and James Wilson each finished with two hits for the Falcons (7-3, 6-3 Region 7-AAA).

Mills earned his third win of the season, throwing six innings and allowing only three earned runs.

Flowery Branch faces Gilmer at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

West Hall 12, Chestatee 2

Jake Shirley led the Spartans (6-4, 4-4 Region 7-AAA) with three hits and five RBIs on Thursday night in Oakwood.

Chad Goff added three hits and three runs batted in. West Hall’s Josh Preston earned the victory allowing only two hits in six innings pitched.

Gilmer 11, Johnson 2

Trae Wilson had a double and home run for the Knights (1-9, 1-7 Region 7-AAA) on Thursday night in Oakwood. Chris White added two hits for Johnson.

The Knights visit Chestatee today.

Creekview 7, Johnson 2 (Wednesday)

Win Griffeth pitched seven innings with five strikeouts and only allowed five hits for the Knights on Wednesday.

Christian Duguay, Wilson, Blake Stacey, Fletcher Whiting and Taylor Whitmire all had hits for Johnson.

West Forsyth 2, White County 1

Wolverines pitcher Michael Moch threw a complete game with eight strikeouts to earn the victory on Thursday night in Cumming.

White County’s Luke Crumley had seven strikeouts in five innings pitched. White County (5-5, 3-5 Region 7-AAA) visits North Hall at 5:55 p.m. today at Jody Davis Field.

Jefferson 11, East Jackson 1

Jason Demos was 3-for-5 with four RBI’s to lead the Dragons on Thursday night in Jefferson.

Caleb Meek, Chris Beck, Jake Fields and Corey Wilkins each added two hits for Jefferson (6-1, 2-0 Region 8-AA).

Jefferson visits Oglethorpe County today in Lexington.

East Hall 8, Pickens 6 
Each starter for East Hall chipped in with a hit, led by Nick Deaton, Jonathan Woodring, and Drew Adams, who each had two hits.
Adams also picked up the win, pitching five innings only allowing five runs. Deaton pitched the sixth and seventh shut the door on the Dragons.
East Hall Travels to Ivey-Watson Field tomorrow to take on Gainesville at 5:55 p.m.

GOLF

Gainesville girls 94, Dawson County 98


Gainesville’s Camryn Cole birdied the final hole to finish with a 38 and win low-medallist honors on Thursday at Chestatee Golf Course.

She entered the final hole with a one-stroke lead over Dawson County’s Charley Whitmire. Leanne Noble shot a 56 for the Lady Red Elephants.

Whitmire led the Lady Tigers with a 42.

Dawson County faces East Jackson at Double Oaks Golf Course on Wednesday in Commerce. Gainesville faces Pickens on Monday at Big Canoe.

West Hall girls 105, West Forsyth 114, Flowery Branch 124

Hannah Derthick carded a 52, and Natalie Mathias and Caitlin VanDenHandel each shot a 53 to lead the Lady Spartans on Thursday at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

West Hall faces Chestatee on Monday at Royal Lakes Golf Course.

Union County 166, Riverside Military 176 (Wednesday)

Carson Brown led the Eagles with a 42, followed by Parks Brown’s 43, Henry Post’s 44 and Alex Schmidt’s 47 on Wednesday
at Butternut Creek Golf Course in Blairsville.

Riverside plays hosts to North Oconee at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Riverside Military 6, Towns County 0


Daniel Vergara scored three goals to lead the Eagles on Thursday night in Hiawassee. Ahmad Chehab, Eddy Montalvo and John Ogunniya each scored once for Riverside.

Riverside (6-3, 4-1) faces Apalachee in the Northeast Georgia Mountain Cup at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Chestatee High.

Chestatee girls 4, White County 0

The Lady War Eagles played high pressure offense and senior Megan Fligg produced a hat trick with three goals on Thursday night at Warriors Stadium in Cleveland.

Abi Mills scored Chestatee’s first goal finding the back of the net off a pass from Kelsey Neukum.

Sharon Sotelo and Sarah Brothers maintained the shutout in goal for Chestatee (8-3-1, 4-3 Region 7-AAA).

Chestatee faces Stephens County in the first round of the Northeast Georgia Mountain Cup on Saturday at the Allen Creek Soccer Complex.

North Georgia Christian 1, Cherokee Christian 1

Ashley Valentine scored the Lady Chargers’ (3-1-1) lone goal on Thursday in Canton. North Georgia Christian faces Cherokee Christian next week.

Johnson girls 3, Flowery Branch 2

Katie Clark won in singles for the Lady Knights, and Laura Gazaway/Annabeth Peace and Harlee Robson/Claire Crain swept doubles action for Johnson on Thursday. Jennica Ramey and Megan Grewett won in singles for Flowery Branch.

West Forsyth boys 4, West Hall 1

Kyle Weatherly and Connor McFall won at No. 1 doubles for the West Hall boys on Thursday at the Bobby Bailey Tennis Center. Austin Todd, Jesse Quiceno and Christian Stanko won in singles for West Forsyth, and Andy Razo/Jesse Magnussen won at No. 2 doubles for the Wolverines.

West Hall (6-5, 4-2 Region 7-AAA) visits Lakeview Academy on Monday.

North Hall boys 5, Gilmer 0

Eli LoCicero, Clayton Nedza and Mitch McCray all won in singles for the North Hall boys on Thursday.

Michael Franze/Charlie Hortenstine and Scott Swanson/Will Bennett won in doubles for the Trojans (6-6, 6-2 Region 7-AAA).

The Eagles received victories in singles from Tom Kerekes, Matt Lowery and Joe Kowalski on Tuesday. Andres Osegueda/Joe Barrow and Chris Reed/Luke Klaer won in doubles for Riverside.

Johnson girls 5, Chestatee 0 (Wednesday)

Cady Nix, Kamy Field and Katie Clark swept singles action for the Lady Knights on Thursday night. Laura Gazaway/Annabeth Peace and Claire Crain/Harlee Robson won in doubles for Johnson.

Track and field

North Hall boys win three-team meet (Wednesday)


The Trojans won eight of 16 events to defeat Creekview and Sequoyah on Wednesday.

First place finishers were Nolan Clark in the 3200-meter and 1600, Jordan Chaffin in the 100 and 200, Chase Yarbrough in the pole vault, Peyton Wilhoite in the discus, Travis McEnaney in the discus and the 4x100 team of Ben Satterfield, Wilhoite, Ben Booth and Chaffin.

Second place finishers were Chaffin in the long jump, Bryant Parks in the discus, Daniel Blitch in the shot put, Ty McCormack in the 1600 and 3200, Satterfield in the 100 and 200 and the 4x400 team of McEnaney, Chaffin, Brandon Lawson, and Clark.
