The Buford High softball team won its first two games of the Class AA elite eight with a 4-0 win against Dodge County and an 8-0 win against Lovett on Thursday in Columbus.
Melissa Dickie and Karly Fullem were the winning pitchers for the top-ranked Lady Wolves (32-2-1). They combined for 11 strikeouts in the two games.
In Buford’s win against Dodge County, Whitney Holman went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a run scored and an RBI. Lexi Overstreet, Samantha Ramey and Kallie Case each had a hit for Buford.
In the Lady Wolves’ five-inning win against Lovett, Holman hit a three-run home run and had four RBIs, Alysha Rudnik was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs and Case added three hits.
The two wins extend Buford’s winnings streak to 29 games and their shutout streak to seven games.
Buford faces Calhoun in the winner’s bracket finals at 5 p.m. today in Columbus.

Lakeview Academy swept in state playoffs
The Lady Lions opened the Class A/AA state tournament with a three-game loss to Blessed Trinity (25-9, 25-11, 25-12) on Friday at Wesleyan in Norcross.
Louisa Jacobs had a kill and four digs for the Lakeview Academy (16-18). Liz Clark had two aces and Megan Rochester and Heather Styles each added two kills.
Lakeview Academy’s season is now complete.
North Georgia Christian ends season with playoff loss
The Lady Chargers opened the Independent Christian Schools of Georgia and Alabama sub-state playoffs with a three game loss to Heritage Christian of Sharpsburg (25-18, 25-20, 26-24) on Thursday in Sharpsburg.
Katherine Dunlap had 12 assists, two aces and one kill for North Georgia Christian. Hannah Parker had five kills and one ace and Ashley Goodson had two kills, two assists and one ace.
North Georgia Christian’s season is now complete.
