High school scoreboard: Lady Wolves top Gainesville

Auburn University commit Blance Alverson led Class AA’s third-ranked Buford with 18 points in the Lady Wolves 52-47 win against fifth-ranked Gainesville on Saturday night at Gainesville High.

A five-point Lady Wolves’ (8-1, 1-0) lead at the end of the one proved to be the difference as both teams matched each other point-for-point with 39 each over the next three quarters.

Jocelyn Danley added 11 points for Buford. Gainesville (6-4, 1-0) was led by Jaymee Carnes who had 22 points.

Buford returns to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Westminster. Gainesville next plays host to Class AAA’s No. 1-ranked Franklin County at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Pickens girls 63, Lumpkin County 47

Despite being down only six after the first half, the Lady Indians were outscored 22-9 in the third quarter leading to a Pickens win.

Ashley Brown led Lumpkin (1-9, 0-5) with 18 points, 11 rebounds and three steals and Cara Malone added 11 points.

Lumpkin County returns to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday when it plays host to Creekview.

Lakeview girls 38, Prince Avenue 31

With the score tied at 29 after the third quarter, the Lady Lions held Prince Avenue to two points in the final period to get the win Friday night in Athens.

Maddie Haymore led all scorers with 18 points for the Lady Lions (4-4).

Lakeview next plays host to Tallulah Falls at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Chestatee girls 54, North Hall 30

Peyton Robertson led the Lady War Eagles with 18 points, seven rebounds and five blocks Friday night at Chestatee.

Chestatee (6-6, 2-0) outscored North Hall 31-7 in the first half to take control of the game.

Chestatee next plays host to West Hall at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Lakeview boys 64, Prince Avenue 33

The Lions jumped out to a 25-3 lead in the first quarter Saturday in Bogart and cruised to a big win.

Tyler Ward led Lakeview (6-6, 2-1 Region 8-A) with 16 points.

The Lions return to action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when they play host to Tallulah Falls.

Blessed Trinity boys 81, Johnson 74

The Knights couldn’t overcome their slow start Saturday, falling behind 47-23 in the first half and falling short in a second-half comeback attempt.

Devarris Finch led Johnson (6-4) with 23 points, while Jim Orr added 14.

The Knights will travel to take on Jackson County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Blessed Trinity girls 67, Johnson 31

Blessed Trinity grabbed an early 11-point lead and pulled away in the second half Saturday.

Caitlin Sloan led the Lady Knights (0-8) with 11 points.

Johnson returns to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson County.

Winder-Barrow boys 64, Flowery Branch 59

Ishmael Hollis scored 20, but it wasn’t enough to help the Falcons (4-5) overtake the Bulldoggs on Saturday.

The Falcons play host to Central Gwinnett at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

North Hall boys 53, Chestatee 43

North Hall seized a 30-13 lead by halftime Saturday night and held off the War Eagles the rest of the way.

North Hall’s Candler Coker led all scorers with 16 points, while Lamar Brooks led Chestatee with 14.
