High School Scoreboard: Gainesville, Buford track teams shine at GAC Invitational

BUFORD BOYS, GIRLS TEAMS EARN FIRST PLACE AT GAC INVITATIONAL: The Buford boys and girls track and field teams both earned first-place finishes at a meet at Greater Atlanta Christian in Norcross.

The Buford boys team (95) finished above Jefferson (90), Gainesville (50) and Dawson County (31).

Caleb Auer finished in first place in the men’s discus (159-01), while Gainesville’s Tyreke Watson finished in fourth (120-03).

Buford’s Dale Craige finished fifth in the men’s long jump (19-08). Gainesville’s Watson finished second in the men’s shot put (41-08.25), while Auer (40-01.50) had a fourth-place finish.

Demontne Bennett finished in third place in the men’s high jump (5-10), while Issac Teasley (5-6) finished in fifth place.

Buford’s Christian Turner finished in second place in the men’s triple jump (40-07), while Gainesville’s Nick Anderson (40-03) came in third place.

Anderson finished in fourth place in the men’s pole vault (10-06). Andone Mendoza finished in third place in the men’s 1600 meters (4:36.86).

Buford finished in first place in the 4 x 100 meter relay (42.84), while Gainesville had a fifth-place finish (44.84).

Kj Anderson finished in second place for Buford in the men’s 400 meters (51.02), while Gainesville’s Manuel Remes (52.07) finished in fifth place.

Anderson finished first in the men’s 200 meters (22.48). Remes had a fifth-place finish for Gainesville (44.98) in the men’s 300 meter hurdles.

In the girls’ results, Buford tied with Maynard for first place, with 103 points each.

Gainesville finished in fifth place with 62 points.

Buford’s Brittany Poole had a first-place finish in the shot put (34-03), while Dominique Martin came in first in the high jump (5-04). Tija Blackwell came in fourth in the high jump for Gainesville (4-10).

Nalay Jones finished in second place for Gainesville in the triple jump (34.00), while Martin finished in fourth place (32-07.5).

Gainesville’s Faith Moss and Morgan Ford (7-06) finished tied for third in the pole vault.

Buford’s Zikaya Wright had a first place finish in the discus (106-00), while Gainesville’s Jones finished second (16-02) in the long jump.

Gainesville finished in third place in the 4 x 100 meter relay (49.87). Buford’s Erin Marsh had a second-place finish in the 400 meters, and Gainesville’s Jones finished in fourth in the 100 meters (13.04).

Gainesville’s Jada Harrison finished in second place in the 100 meter hurdles (16.80), while Harrison had a fourth-place finish (49.64) in the 300 meter hurdles.

Buford finished in second place in the 4 x 400 meter relay (4:03.98), while Gainesville had a fifth-place finish (4:20.85).

SOCCER

RIVERSIDE MILITARY ACADEMY 10, WASHINGTON-WILKES 0: Carlos Carrillo registered a hat trick, Jorge Quesada and Manuel Chivaca scored two goal each and three other Eagles scored in Friday’s rout.

Samuel Palmer, Carlos Pablovich and Marlo Martinez-Perez all added goals.

Goalkeeper Jonathan Guo recorded a shut-out for Riverside.

The Eagles (7-2-1, 4-0 Region 8-AA) next travel to play Oglethorpe County 7 p.m. Monday.

BASEBALL

CHESTATEE 15, JOHNSON 3 (5 innings): The War Eagles put together 12 singles and two doubles in Friday’s region victory.

Austin Sargent was 4 for 4 at the plate, responsible for two singles, two doubles, three RBISs and two runs scored.

Cameron Wilson was 3 for 4 for three singles, 3 RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Mikey Petraroi was 2 for 3 with two singles, an RBI and a run.

Sargent pitched three innings, giving up two runs and four hits while striking out six batters.

ATHENS ACADEMY 4, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 3 (11 INNINGS): Logan Barwick was 4 for 6 at the plate and scored a run on Friday as the Lions fell in 11 innings at Athens Academy.

Gabe McConnell was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Pitcher Rob Hamby pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and one earned run. 

Lakeview next travels to play George Walton Academy 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

JEFFERSON SWEEPS FRIDAY’S DOUBLEHEADER OVER OCONEE COUNTY: The Dragons won 8-6 in Game 1 before earning a 3-2 victory in Game 2.

Asher Standridge was the winning pitcher for Jefferson in the first game, while Patrick Hickox was the winning pitcher in the nightcap.

Jefferson (9-3, 5-1 Region 8-AAA) next hosts East Jackson 5:55 p.m. Tuesday.

NORTH HALL 5, WHITE COUNTY 2: Corban Meeler pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts, allowing one earned run on six hits and two walks.

Maddox Dill hit a double with 2 RBIs.
