High school scoreboard: Gainesville bats down Pickens

The Gainesville High baseball team improved its overall record to .500 with a 14-3 win against Pickens on Wednesday in Jasper.

The Red Elephants (5-5, 5-4 Region 7-AAA) unloaded 18 hits on the Dragons, most of them coming during a nine-run sixth inning.

David Gonzalez was 4-for-4 with three RBIs for Gainesville. Tai-Ler Jones was 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs and two RBIs. Anderson Loggins, Erik Tarnacki and Sloan Strickland each had two hits for the Red Elephants.

Andy Edmondson picked up the win for Gainesville, striking out five.

Gainesville plays host to East Hall at 5:55 p.m. Friday, where it will honor former head coach Wayne Vickery before the game.

Flowery Branch 16, Chestatee 0

The Falcons scored in all five innings on Wednesday at Chestatee High.

Jimmy Fitzgerald was 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs for Flowery Branch (6-3, 5-3 Region 7-AAA). Bucky Free and Cory Sanderson also homered for the Falcons.

James Wilson pitched a complete game and struck out 10 for Flowery Branch.

Scott Chewning and James Kibbler each had hits for Chestatee (3-4, 3-4).

Flowery Branch plays host to Creekview at 6:15 p.m. today. Chestatee visits West Hall at 5:30 p.m. today..000

Lumpkin County 12, East Hall 2

Drew Uptegraph pitched a complete game with 11 strikeouts, while going 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate in the Indians’ six-inning win Wednesday in Dahlonega.

Devin Dunson was 4-for-4 with two RBIs for Lumpkin County (9-1, 7-1 Region 7-AAA), which has won four straight. Jonathan Whitehead and Randy Otis had two hits for the Indians.

Lumpkin County plays host to Pickens at 7 p.m. Friday. East Hall (2-8, 1-7) visits Gainesville at 5:55 p.m. Friday..000

White County 6, Franklin County 2

Kevin Frederick won in his season debut on the mound, striking out five hitters in five innings pitched Wednesday in Cleveland.

Kyle Mills hit a two-run home run while pitching in the sixth inning to earn the save for White County (5-4). Zach Messmore also hit a three-run home run.

Marcus Kelly was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs for Franklin County.

White County visits West Forsyth at 5:30 p.m. today.

Stephens County 2, Buford 1

The Wolves pulled within one run in the sixth inning, but were unable to complete the rally Wednesday in Toccoa.

Michael May was 2-for-3 at the plate for Buford (3-4).

Josh Rudnik pitched a complete game with five strikeouts and three hits allowed for the Wolves.

Buford plays host to Stephens County in a rematch at 5:55 p.m. Friday.

GOLF

North Hall boys 151, Lumpkin County 162


Jimmy Lloyd was the low-medalist of the day, shooting a 35 for the Trojans on Wednesday at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Landry Haynes carded a 37 for North Hall.

Ben Jarrard led Lumpkin County with a 39. Aaron George shot a 41 for the Indians.

North Hall faces West Hall at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Chestatee Golf Course.

Gainesville girls 99, Habersham Central 111

Camryn Cole shot a 45 and Susan Frobos carded a 54 for the Lady Red Elephants, who won their second game in as many days Wednesday at Apple Mountain Golf Course in Clarkesville.

Hannah Whitlock led Habersham Central with a 49.

Gainesville visits Dawson County at 4 p.m. today at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Dawson County boys 162, Gilmer 203

Wesley Bearden shot a career-low 36 for the Tigers on Wednesday at Crystal Falls Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Cody Palmer carded a 41 and Nick Fitts and Zach Williams each had 42 for Dawson County (5-2).

Dawson County visits East Jackson at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Double Oaks Golf Course in Commerce.

Dawson County girls 108, Gilmer 128

Erin Pruitt shot a 53 and Rachel Dotson carded a 55 for the Lady Tigers on Wednesday at Crystal Falls Golf Course in Dawsonville.

Dawson County (6-1) looks to win on consecutive days when the play host to Gainesville at 4 p.m. today at Chestatee Golf Course in Dawsonville.

SOCCER

Gainesville girls 3, West Hall 0 (Tuesday)

Raquel Castillo, Maggie Norton and Kelly Mattick each scored a goal for the Lady Red Elephants (5-3, 1-2 Region 7-AAA) on Tuesday in Oakwood. Emily Stephens finished with two assists for Gainesville and Lauren Joiner added another assist.

Lady Red Elephants goal keeper Hong Tran finished with 12 saves.

Gainesville visits Lumpkin County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday in Dahlonega.

North Hall girls 10, East Hall 0 (Tuesday)

Julia Matthews and Allie Wright each recorded hat tricks for Class AAA’s third-ranked Lady Trojans on Tuesday at The Brickyard.

Bradee Burrell had two goals and four assists and Ali Souther added two assists for North Hall (8-2, 6-0 Region 7-AAA). Amanda Brock recorded her first goal of the season for the Lady Trojans.

North Hall visits Dalton at 5:30 p.m. Friday. East Hall (0-6, 0-6) visits Creekview at 7:30 p.m. today.

Riverside Military 2, Rabun County 0 (Tuesday)

Ahmad Chehab scored on a header from a free kick by John Ogunniya early in the first half, followed by Daniel Vergara’s goal later in the half for the early win Tuesday in Gainesville.

Steven Frady recorded the shutout in goal for Riverside (6-3, 3-1 Area 15-A/AA).

Riverside visits Towns County at 5 p.m. today.

TENNIS

Flowery Branch girls 3, Central Gwinnett 2


Jennica Ramey and Elizabeth Mallory each won in singles for the Lady Falcons, with Mallory rallying from a 5-0 deficit to win in a tiebreaker Wednesday in Flowery Branch.

Morgan Reed and Lindsey Shaw won a doubles match for Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch plays host to Johnson at 4 p.m. today..000

North Hall girls 4, Pickens 1 (Tuesday)

Becca Wren and Jessica Butts each won in singles for the Lady Trojans on Tuesday at North Hall High.

North Hall (8-3, 6-1 Region 7A-AAA) secured the win with a sweep in doubles by the team of Gay Anne Agnew and Rachel Langman and the team of Katherine Wessely and Anna Eades.

North Hall plays host to Gilmer at 4 p.m. today.

Lakeview Academy boys 5, Tallulah Falls 0 (Tuesday)

Nekhil Patel, Mike Fowler and Kollin Smith each won in straight sets to sweep singles for the Lions on Tuesday in Gainesville.

The team of Matt Morris and Alex Klecan and the team of Sean Casey and Jackson Beck completed the sweep for Lakeview.

Lakeview plays host to Commerce at 4 p.m. today.

Lakeview Academy girls 5, Tallulah Falls 0 (Tuesday)

Jackie Burleson, Molly Smith and Nyari Chanakira won in singles in straight sets for the Lady Lions on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Lakeview completed the sweep in doubles with wins from the team of Cree Nix and Komal Patel and the team of Meagan Cole and Jennifer Porter.

Lakeview plays host to Commerce at 4 p.m. today.
