High school scoreboard: Flowery Branch girls tennis opens region with win against Clarke Central

Olivia Correa won in No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-2) in straight sets in Flowery Branch’s 4-1 victory over Clarke Central.

Olivia Nance won in No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-1) For the Falcons. Kylie McGuire/Peyton Brick won their match in No. 1 doubles, while Marissa Barrett/Brenna Martin defeated Mary Carroll Waller/Reagan Kelley in straight sets for Flowery Branch (5-1, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAA).

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 5, CLARK CENTRAL 0: Drayton Matus won a match for Flowery Branch in straight sets in No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-0).

Tucker Smallwood won in No. 2 singles for the Falcons (6-1,6-4), while teammate Gunnar Hetzel won No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-1). Flowery Branch’s Brody Millwood/Dominick Garcia won in No. 1 doubles (4-6, 6-1, 6-2). John Hollis/Brady McVey won their match in No. 2 doubles (6-3, 6-0).

Flowery Branch improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in region play.

GAINESVILLE 3, APPALACHEE 2: Roan Thompson/Michael Head won in straight sets for Gainesville in No. 1 doubles (6-4, 6-1). Max Wuest/Thomas Carter won their match in straight sets (6-2,6-2) for the Red Elephants.

Dylan Pineda won in singles for Gainesville in straight sets (6-4, 6-0).

Gainesville improved their record to 2-0 and 1-0 in region play.

Soccer

Carmen Wagner scored two goals and had an assist in Lakeview Academy’s 4-0 win against East Hall.

Meredith Tucker chipped in two goals with an assist for the Lady Lions (4-2), while Esther Suen added a goal for Lakeview Academy. The Lady Lions play Rabun Gap at 6 p.m. Thursday in Rabun Gap.

EAST HALL BOYS 10, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 0: Carlos Castrejon scored 2 goals and had and assist for East Hall. Sergio Turcios also added two goals for the Vikings (5-0).

East Hall visits East Jackson at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Commerce.

RIVERSIDE MILITARY 4, ATHENS ACADEMY 2: Jose Marrufo scored a goal 50 yards out for Riverside Military.
Chukwudumebi Madichie, Samuel Palmer and Carlos Carrillo had a goal apiece for the Eagles.

Riverside Military visits Union County on Friday in Blairsville.

LAKEVIEW ACADEMY GIRLS 4, EAST HALL 0: Carly Cox had 12 saves in East Hall’s loss.

The Lady Vikings visit East Jackson at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Commerce.

CHESTATEE GIRLS 4, NORTH HALL 2: Leah Smith scored a goal for North Hall. Lauren Tymchuk also added a goal for the Trojans.

CHESTATEE BOYS 5, NORTH HALL 2: Joel Barrientos scored North Hall’s two goals, both in the first half.

North Hall plays Lumpkin County at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Dahlonega.

FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 4, GAINESVILLE 3: Ella Reilly scored a goal and had an assist for Flowery Branch. Glorismel Chavez, Allyson Lusco and Lyla Migliore had a goal apiece for the Lady Falcons (3-3-1).

Flowery Branch hosts Cedar Shoals on Friday in Flowery Branch.

Baseball

Zack Wagner had seven strikeouts to help lift Flowery Branch to a 2-1 win against East Hall.

Anthony Grutadaurio scored for the Falcons, while teammate Blake Decker finished the game with a score. Mikey Matuska and Luke Holtzclaw both had one hit to lead East Hall.

WEST FORSYTH 4, NORTH HALL 3: Corban Meeler pitched four innings and had four strikeouts for North Hall. John Montgomery had two hits for the Trojans.

North Hall faces North Forsyth today in Cumming.
