High School Scoreboard: Flowery Branch boys soccer wins in overtime on Elias Araya free kick

Flowery Branch’s Elias Araya scored on a free kick with 1:21 remaining in the second overtime to lead the Falcons (10-6, 7-3 8-AAAAA) to a 1-0 win over Discovery High on Thursday night.

Baseball

PRINCE AVENUE 7, LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 4: Lakeview’s Bailey Whitlock went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs on Thursday night.

Brannon Browner went 2 for 3 with a double and pitcher Rob Hamby went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

Lakeview Academy finishes the season with an overall record of 5-19.

CHESTATEE 13, MONROE AREA 10 (WEDNESDAY): Chestatee’s Sean Irick went 3 for 4 with five RBIs on Senior Night.

Senior Mikey Petraroi went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Cameron Wilson and Joe Sutton also went 2 for 4 with Sutton scoring an RBI. Braxton Nicholson went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Chestatee finishes the season at 11-15 and 7-9 in Region 8-AAAA.

Track and Field

GAINESVILLE HIGH’S NICK ANDERSON WINS REGION 8-AAAAA BOYS POLE VAULT CHAMPIONSHIP (WEDNESDAY): Anderson won a jump off with reigning state champion Hunter Mallard after Mallard was forced to scratch due to the flu. Both vaulters finished with jumps of 12 feet.

Messiah Dorsey finished second in the boys long jump (21-6). Other notable finishers were Tija Blackwell (third in girls high jump at 5 feet), Kayla Kelly (fourth in girls high jump at 5 feet), Faith Moss (third in girls pole vault at 8-6) and Nala Jones (fourth in girls triple jump at 34-6).
